rx8, might as well own a lamborghini.. MPGS!!

Ok so far I'm very happy wiht the vehicle!
It handles very well, it has great pickup, and its comfortable.

However the mpg sux ! I'm getting horrible mileage,
What are you guys avaraging.

I'm literally getting 16mpg !!! 16 !!! :\ my mrs got 30
My v6 maxima got 18-22
The s2k gets 18-22

Dang I can't get 18 or 20 mpg out of this guy.
And, the tires I have say 51 max psi, I have all 4 tires at an even 40.

On daily driving I shift before 4rpm. I only go above.4 when I get throttle happy

I checked my oil seems to be descent, oil preassure is a lil above the high mark (above haklfway)
Idk when they changed it last.

How can I get better mileage out of it?

you bought the wrong car, should have done a bit more research.

do you do mostly city driving?
How long have your spark plugs been in there? ignition coils? ignition wires? Cleaned your air filter lately? MAF sensor?

40 psi is a lot. Most people run 34-38 for city driving.

also, the oil pressure gauge is a "dummy" gauge. It's doesnt' actually read pressure. (if the car starts, it always goes to the exact same spot and stays there)

Uh.. 16 is about normal. If you want economy get a prius. Or better yet a scooter, the Piaggio MP3 hybrid gets like 150+ mpg.

btw lamborghinis get like 10mpg.

Lamborghini LP640 = 10 mpg

Lamborghini Gallardo = 15 mpg

See that, your RX-8 is still better then the Lambo!

Also the Lamborghini insurance would be double that or more for the RX8. so just think of all the money you are already saving not buying the Lamborghini.

If you're driving city, then that explains why. Do you have a manual? Just shift to neutral more! I can make a tank last 100 miles... or 300 miles... just be more conscious and coast more. Time your stoplights, think like a hypermiler.

I got almost 22mpg
city+free way
Please use the cruise control
and set is 75 max, you will get 21mpg at least
I set it 73 which is 3000K rmp on free way
i got almost 300miles out of my tank
all tires 36 psi
just shift to 6th asap
1st, 2nd, 3rd dont over 3K rpm
you should get 280+ from a tank

btw
I got only 7mpg in the track
Finished my 13 gals of gas in 96 track miles, lol

What's the year and model of your 8? MT?AT?

My 08 RX-8 6MT gave me 17.5mpg when I am breaking-in (just done breaking-in this week). Driving habit is very similar (4000rpm shift). 65~75% city driving.

I heard that getting a turbocharger will increase your MPG... you should get one of those.

I would take a lambo over the rx8 anytime!!! lol! But anyways 16 mpg is pretty good... I get 13-14 mpg and I had the car for 4 years!!!

Alternative option to save more gas and get more power is to swap the engine to something else like a LS1 or 2

I just got done driving 400 miles today. The only fill was at 311 miles and it took 12.9 gallons after a couple bumps. That's 24 mpg!! Constant 72 except for construction.
