Question for yall Cali folks
Question for yall Cali folks
I'll be PCSing out to Monterey from San Antonio, TX in April and I'll be out there a little over a year. Currently, my car has the RB exhaust. Will I catch any heat from the police because of that? The car is registered and inspected in Texas and I'm not going to be a resident of California. How do the modification laws apply out there? Any info would be great.
The Racing Beat exhaust alone will not give you any trouble, it's actually the most "grown up" exhaust out there IMO. Any engine mods?
You should check out the DMV site so you don't get pull over for your out of state plates and stuff. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/checklists/outofstate.htm

you should be fine, usually if your out of state the cops wont bug you as much unless your being really obnoxious, as far as mods go, exhaust cant be over 95 decibels, you need to have all the smog equipment intact, intake needs a carb sticker, no tint on front windows, need front plate, center of headlight need to be 22inches above ground i think and lower edge of the body cant be lower than the lower lip of your rim, i think thats about it, but again as long as you dont attract attention, you should be fine,
Ok thanks for the info. I don't have any other mods save for the K&N drop in (not like that counts). I'll check the DMV site and make sure I'm following Texas regs, but makes me happy that I can still keep my exhaust with no problems. Cali has this stigma on it that you can't do jack to your car without catching gripe from popos.
If you move to california you have 30 days to register your car or it gets a lot more expensive (and you aren't legally allowed to drive the car after that period). It will probably need to be smogged to, but I forget the specific regulations about that. The exhaust should be fine if you have a CARB sticker.
I'm not required to change my state of residence since I'm in the military. My home of record is whatever my driver's license says. Actually, we're allowed to have different state for DL, vehicle reg. and physical address.
That's why I was asking if the same rules that CA resident follow applied to me as well.

Your exhaust will be fine. The last Emission device is your Cat. Then after that it really does not matter what kind of exhuast you put on your car. All you are doing is changing the sound of the muffler. As long as it meets the 95D sound mark you should be good to go. But if the Racing Beat Exhaust does have an C.A.R.B# or EO#. Then you are safe. Believe me, I am in the process of getting my SMOG lic. I know everything that is legal and NOT legal.
The racing beat exhuast really don't make to much noise, unless your running Cat less. Just drive safe and not reckless.
