Question - please help

Thanks all for helping

I have an rx8 that when at idle on flat ground, the tach needle likes to float and bounce around between 0.6-1 rpms. Is that normal because it's a rotary engine? I'm not too sure.

2nd issue is possibly a mis sync. When I was driving I was going like 60 in 2nd gear shifted to neutral to slow down to like 40 tried to put it back in 2nd and with the clutch pedal all the way down it would grind and wouldn't let me put it in 2nd. Didn't try any other gear. Is that a mis sync and is it easy to repair? If repaired easily is it area for concern afterwords?

If anyone has any insight it's appreciated it. Thanks.

part two sounds like your clutch is getting ready to go as far as part 1 goes my car does it too. just to lazy to investigate. has something to do with the A/C tho

Don't ever put the transmission in netral while driving.

When was the last time you had a tune up?

How many miles since then?

Ok I'll bite ...
I'm an old guy and I've not heard this one before.
Is it safety related or mechanical, please enlighten me.

Thanks Razz

i am currently having the same problem as you with your downshifting into 2nd. if you are going 30 or below, does it go into gear without grinding?

Ive got a list of possible problems from mazda that you can check on.

1.) your clutch pedal bracket is about ready to snap.
2.) your clutch is going out.
3.) low on tranny oil.
4.) synchros are going out. (which still means rebuilding or replacing your tranny.
5.) the gear has gone bad and wont bite when your car is in the power band.

Hopefully its 2 or 3. cause 1,4 and 5 are annoying to deal with and expensive if you dont have warranty anymore.

just say your tranny is grinding when you try to put it in gear, and you think that it might be the slave cylinder.

There was never a recall for that part. I don't even remember a TSB being issued.

Edit, I guess there was. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...4-06-1641a.pdf
