"Missing Front License Plate" ticket in CA

I was fined $100 in Golden Gate Park this weekend for "Missing Front License Plate".
Is it a redeemable ticket? Do I get money back if I put the license plate?

p.s. I think that rx8 looks ugly with from licence plate mounted.

There's a DIY for an alternate front mount. Places the plate off center and low, kind of like the late 70's Camaro. If you gotta have one it looks a lot better than dead center covering the grill.

it would usually say on the ticket whether its fixable or not. if it is fixable just mount your plate holder temporarily and you can have any cop sign off the ticket.

I didn't want to but ended up deciding it wasn't worth the tickets (got two, one parking and one pulled over) for not having a front plate. I mounted it very simply -- bought some bolts at Orchid's and very easily drilled two quick holes. Took a dated picture and sent it and was able to only pay $25.

Does this mean the ticket I have is NOT fixable?

"Took a dated picture and sent it and was able to only pay $25."

So you mean you faked the date on the picture?
How do I do it? ;-)

Most likely, yes, because the cop that issued the ticket is an *******. It's a good idea to stay away from any public areas with cops crawling all over it such as crowded parks and beaches if you don't have a front license plate because they have nothing better to do than to protect people from the hazards of not having a front license plate. Because we all know that there's nothing else more dangerous than not having a license plate you know... it prevents a lot of deaths and accidents by having a front license plate on the car...

I just got back from Big Bear... about 800+ Corvettes there... none of them had Front plates. I saw over 100+ in one day, no plates. Then I saw some cops there too to cover the traffic jams... no tickets given.

But No Front plate in California is a Fix it ticket... Usually $10-20 if you show up in court and talk to the judge show proof that you got the ticket signed off. If it's CHP, then you'll have to get it signed off from a CHP officer, and they can get pretty **** about the fix it... (I've had the guy attempt to pry off my front plate to see if the mounting was legit).

I didn't have any problems for 1/2 year in the place where I live.
But seems like cops in SF are crazy.

So I just mount it and show it to any officer?
Does it have to be SF officer or just any local?

Any place that is using cameras to document speeding or problematic intersections is going to be all over making sure you have front plates...it's all about $$$. Just my $0.02 worth...

Mount it (Try double stick 3m tape.. that's what I did) then go to any police agency in SF county, have it signed off by an officer. (Try going up to the desk and hope it's a rookie cop that got stuck with front desk support. They'll sign it off without much hassle)... or get it signed off when it's raining. The cops will not want to step out just to see if your plate is on or what.

Once it's signed, go to the court date, they'll ask you what you are appearing for.. say fix it ticket.. they'll say you don't need to see the judge, pay the fine ($10-20) and ta da.. no biggy.

^^^Yup. It's all about generating revenue. I don't think cops in the City are crazy... I think the drivers are crazy, they upped the ante. Cameras are put in place to photo red-light-runners and a front plate is needed to ticket the culprit.

Sheesh...running red lights out here is a tradition.

Rozzano, you do know that other states do not have Front License plate laws... Most cameras (At least here in LA) take pix of your Back License Plate as you run the red... clearly showing that you ran the red in the pic, and the back of your car.

Like I said, if it's so cut and dry, why don't they ever ticket a Corvette? What's so special that they never have front plates? Next time you drive around, notice the vettes with no front plate.

Zepp, on the back of the ticket should be the contest your ticket/complaint number or address. I called the # on the back of mine (and got through fairly quickly!) and then told them I would mount the front plate. They told me ok, take a dated pic and send it along with $20 (or maybe $25) and I would be good to go. This is in L.A., by the way.

I just got on of those. $25 here in Nebraska.

Sucks! It took me 2 weeks just to find my front plate holder in my garage cause it hasn't been on my car for like 9 months!

I'd rather not have one, but I don't think that it is worth the potential hassle.

San Francisco is probably the worst place to try to get away with anything involving parking enforcement. The city has a shortage of parking spaces to begin with -- I read once that, during the day, the city has more cars than parking spots! Plus it has a budget deficit and is not above issuing a few thousand parking tickets to help balance the books.

What I've done is leave the temporary registration sticker that dealers put on new cars stuck to the front windshield. That way, any cop passing me from the opposite direction and noticing no front plate will hopefully think my car is still new. Another reason to keep it clean!

sorry for the late response, i was working the whole day and had school in the morning. the ticket should show somewhere "correctable violation per vehicle code section 40610". if that box is checked, then any cop in CA can sign it off. as someone above said you still have to pay a fee usually about 10-20 dollars.

no F/P actually saved me one time when i was hit by a redlight camera in problematic intersection. i went back there to check and seemed like they only took the front side (diff city has diff implementations). so i waited and prayed and i have not got a ticket yet ($342). been almost 2 months.

i still gamble everytime with passing police cruiser as long as i don have my F/P on. :D

william. those tickets can take months to come, I got one on my last car. Sorry to break the bad news. And zepplock, I guess I'm lucky, I live in the east bay, but work in daly city, where the cops are even bigger ********, and I never get em. No Front plate, but I think they do like my Mazdaspeed kit. Maybe thats the ticket to no tickets.
