LAX Area Meet (Part II).
OK, "project car" might be the wrong terminology. What I'm thinking is if I'm going to have problems with the car that I own (the guys at galpin know me far too well), y not have a cheaper car that'll give me more bang for buck? (All puns aside). I dread the day that my warranty runs out. I just can't justify shelling out $300, 400, 500 for mods that I won't be able to feel.
I could theoretically buy a VR-4 for $10k, have cheaper insurance, have plenty of money for mods that will give a better return than anything aftermarket for the RX-8, throw the remaining few thousand dollars I have left over into savings and then smoke RX-8s left and right.

1) if you "know" definitively that your 8 is a lemon, then YES- it's time to ditch it, because you obviously don't want to keep a car that's going to break down and keep costing you like a money pit...
2) if another part of your agenda is to "smoke" the rx-8 then YES- it's also time to ditch it, because you obviously don't love the car anymore... <shrugs> at least let those of us who still love it enjoy our rides.

and the major companies didn't want to throw their RnD department to something unknown. Not many companies have thrown money to research into the Wankel rotary as much as Mazda has.
