Job in Orange CA

Hey guys! I'm currently living in Columbus, OH but I'll be interviewing for a job in Orange,CA. I was wandering what kind of commute I might be looking at if I were to live in the Westwood/LA area and commute to Orange? What about rush-hour vs. non-rush-hour. Thanks alot.

Good luck getting OUT of the Westwood area. Damn 405/10 area is JAMMED PACK all the time, with the exception of10pm - 6am. I HATE driving through that part of town.

Sounds like 1.5 hour commute to me. Could be longer depending on what time you would be commuting. You could be spending 3-4 hours a day of your life in traffic. Not a good idea.

Depends, there are parts of LB that are only minutes from the OC. Then again if you want to go from LB to the southern parts of OC it could be 1-1.5 hrs drive one way during rush hour.

I live in Long Beach and travel to Orange County all the time. During rush hour, it takes me an hour to get to Santa Ana. During the middle of the day, it takes me 30 minutes.

Too bad maps do not show construction in progress. If you are looking at a map, it may seem to be an easy area to get around. But anything out here with more than a 20 mile commute is not worth it. Time is money. And you dont get paid to commute. The icity of Orange is one of the most congested cities to drive in. If the job pays HUGE, maybe it is worth it. If you want to avoid the OH weather, it is worth it. but do not shoot yourself in the foot to move here.

I'll be going out to OC in 1.5 weeks to go check the practice out. It's one of the most prestigeous specialty practices in the country so that's why I'm really trying to see if I can make this work. The earning potential at this practice is also much greater than most others. Looks like it would be 35 miles on 405 and 10 miles on 22

I'll be more concerned about how much you'll be spending on gas. But yeah from long beach to O.C., your looking at about 45 minutes. Don't take the 22 freeway cause it is under some major construction.

What about from OC to OC? Why does it have to be LB to OC?

I would think it is better to live near work and drive as little as possible. Sitting in traffic in So Cal will only make you resent it here. Pretty much the biggest negative of the area.

Well, the Jewish community is in the Santa monica/westwood/beverly hills area and that's where I need to live. If it would come down to leaving really early to avoid traffic, then that's what I might have to do. I guess I'll find out in 1.5 weeks. Thanks for all the replies guys...keep them coming

Ah........ you sure?

Calf. is so large I bet there are plenty of Jewish communities.

Why do you have to live there? The food?

Remember Population doubles in less than 10 years here.

Soon no one will be able to drive.

you must be really young to think a comute like that is worth your time.

Think of your frustration grey hair and health. No wait........ you will looose your hair in traffic.

If you want to live in LA, then work in LA. Personally, I couldn't handle living in LA. I much prefer the OC landscape. Long Beach to OC could be fine. Depends on the hours and where in OC we are talking about.

From Long Beach to Orange would take at least 45 Mins. It could be fraustrating as traffic will take it's toll on you. If you have flexable schedule then it's a different story. I know there is a big JCC on the boarder of Irvine and Newport close to UCI. Not sure if that's what you are looking for, but just another info for you.
