I'm Coming to Cali... Again!

My roomie is traveling for business so I'm mooching off her hotel room and food allowance next weekend. We're staying downtown, flying in 9/30 night and I'm leaving 10/3 morning. Any suggestions on things to do (besides the zoo)? We definitely want to hit some cool clubs/bars and want to enjoy some great food.

go to downtown L.A. on Santee street. You can buy all the fake Louis Vuitton and buy all the latest bootlegs that are out in the theatres!

Just go to the Gas Lamp in SD... You'll find anything you want to do there.

Pacific Beach is kind've fun. Solana Beach during the day. If you drive about 30 min. up you have the outlets in Carlsbad. Gaslamp is fun. Sea World. For some very good mexican food (though you live in Texas, so I'm sure you have plenty down there) go to Old Town. I'm headed off to Ireland tomorrow, or I would come down to SD. Love to party down there.

Dazy, I'll send you a PM with lots of things to do. Skip TJ, unless you want to do some shopping. It's where the underage kids go to drink. And then, if you go, don't drive. Take the trolley down and then get a cab for $5 to get into town. Close your eyes - the drivers can be pretty wild down there! Gaslamp or Pacific Beach would be more fun for you two, and Gaslamp is walking distance from downtown SD.

Gaslamp/Pacific Beach.
I'm from/live in Pacific Beach. Tons of bars as well. Plenty to walk to, and they are really close to the beach.

If you'd like some company or a guide, send me a PM. I'll even buy you a drink or 10.

I spotted a yellow RX8 in Old Town, San Diego - personalized plate "PHANATIC." I left a love note. :D

San Diego is great. I need to look into getting a job transfer...... We had dinner last night at Horton Plaza and went to the Yard House afterwards. Did ya'll know it had a zillion beers on tap? It was great. And I almost got free tickets from a drunk guy, but he was looking for a "date" and when I told him I wasn't "available" he changed his tune.

Went to the harbor and had brunch at Edgewater Cafe. Drove to Coronado and saw The Del, walked the beach and the shops. Drove to Old Town and did the tourist thing and ate at Coyote *something*. Did you know they had chocolate and cinnamon tortillas? Both were very good. There's also a strawberry kind, but we didn't try those.

Tonight we're going to Pacific Beach for a couple drinks. Tomorrow is Balboa Park and Mission Valley and sushi for dinner. My goal was to have seafood at every meal - no chicken or beef the whole weekend - and so far so good!!

That would be the Coyote Cantina. You're one up on me - I've never even been in there! I'll be curious to hear where you went for sushi. Glad you're having a good time in our fair city, Dazy!

Plans for Saturday night went a little... erm, out the window? Lol, after making my last post, Jessie and I were going to take a little nap and then head out to PB. Well... the alarm went off and instead of getting up we both rolled over and went back to sleep!!

So we woke up Sunday, refreshed after sleeping for 12 hours straight!!! We drove out to Balboa Park but we were way too early for anything to be open (it was 9:30am), lol, we were still on Texas time. So we drove out to PB and watched the surfers (which I TOTALLY need to learn how to do, as well as skateboard), then MB and then Point Loma. Normally there's a fee to see the lighthouse and the Cabrello statue, but there was a Cabrello celebration that day so it was free!! :D Then we went back downtown, had lunch at Goose McGillycuddy's and watched the Chargers smash the Patriots and had ice cream down the street at Ghiradelli's. :D THEN we went back to Balboa Park and we tried some of the food offered in the international houses. Did some shopping and supported the local artists, then went and checked in at our hotel in Mission Valley.

We went to Ono Sushi in Hillcrest for dinner. YUM YUM YUM!!! I don't remember everything we had, but we covered the major food groups - tuna, salmon, red snapper, crab, unagi, Kirin Light and fried ice cream. But the night turned sour fairly quickly... we got towed! Apparently you can't park within a 5 block vicinity of where your destination is, so we had to take a cab to the other side of Mission Valley to get the car and lo and behold, no one was even there for us to pick up our car!!! It totally sucked. To make a long, terrible story short, we finally got the car out for $300 later that night.

It would have been great to meet you RP, and Photic and Phee... I guess I'll just have to come out again!!! :D

All in all, the trip was good. If I ever leave Texas (and I found out that my company has a location in SPAWAR near Old Town), I'm going to SoCal. :D

PS. I tagged a TiGrey at Balboa Park, OEM spoiler and paper plates. I left a love note. :D

Careful, too much ice cream not good for Betty Boop! :D

RX8Honey - I'm already home. I was only able to stay for the weekend.

Well there's not a rule that you can't park w/in a 5 mile radius, but that's what it seemed like everywhere we went. I understand the downtown area since there's a lot of vendors but only so many spots on each street, but we were in Hillcrest.

<sigh> Here's the long story: We parked in this shopping center (University/Richmond) where apparently you can only park there if you're going to a store in that shopping center. We didn't go to a store there, we went to a restaraunt around the corner on the street, Ono Sushi. It was at night and very dark and we didn't see any of the signs. Heck, we were lucky to find the restaurant in the first place!! We got back to the parking lot to find our car gone and when we went to the security idiot (he doesn't deserve the title of "officer") he says, "Oh, so you're the ladies from Missouri?" We said, "NO, we're NOT!!! We're from TEXAS!" He says, "Well the plates said Missouri." We said, "It was a rental!" So basically he calls us idiots by showing us where the signs where (barely noticable when he pointed them out and not lit up by anything so you definitely can't see them at night unless you know they're there AND they're facing the wrong direction!! You can only see them if you're LEAVING the lot.) We tried explaining that we weren't from the area, got lost trying to get there and were paying attention to street names and traffic instead of tiny signs that face the wrong way, warning you not to park there. That's when he attempts to call the tow truck man but tells another security idiot, "I can't get ahold of Scott." Now what security idiot knows the tow truck man by his first name? A SCAMMER - that's who!!! They have a deal worked out so that the security idiots can make money and Scott is the owner of the towing business. I was so pissed!!!! I told off the security idiot.

So we hail a cab (which I've never personally done before) and take a $23 ride to the towing place. We get there and - surprise, surprise - our car is locked up inside a garage with a tow truck, with no other cars, AND NOBODY IS THERE FOR US TO GET THE CAR OUT!!! So we waited a little bit and poked around, looking for an open door or window, tried several attempts to call the owner (but the phone was to the office and we could see and hear the phone ring through the door windows) all the while the cabbie is making snide and rude remarks (I told him off too). So after about 10 min or so of no luck, we took the cab back to the hotel, another $10 or so. Jess and I only had $25 between us so we kinda stiffed him a little, but we had no choice. We arranged for cabs to pick us up in the morning, me to the airport and her to the office, and we kept trying to call "Scott" while venting our frustrations in the hotel room. (We would have drank them away but our liquor was in the car. ) Finally Jess is able to get through and she explains that we have no cash b/c we took a cab ride up there for NO REASON since he wasn't there. He sends another tow truck driver to pick her up, but there's no way in hell I'm letting her go along, so I went with. We get to the garage, he fills out the paperwork and we pay the money while I told him off too. We finally get the car out and go back to the hotel.

What a crappy way to end a great weekend, huh?
