HKS Hi Power Exhaust

So im thinking of purchasing a HKS Hi power Exhaust for my 8. but i have a quick question...Is this a Cat back System? would i have a problem passing my smog test. Also i heard its really loud. is that true? ive youtubed it and it seems semi loud. or would there a better choice for Exhaust systems. Ive also looked at the Borla System and the Greddy SP system. Thank in advance for the help.

It's on the loud side for sure so choose wisely. I miss mine, it is the best sounding cat back but I doubt your girlfriend (or whatever) or your neighbors will enjoy it.

If you are keeping the cat you should be fine with how loud it is. I have a midpipe with the hks single and it is pretty loud but I haven't had any problems yet. None of my neighbors seem to care but we are all pretty friendly. I made sure to ask them if it was too loud when I would leave in the morning/night and they said it was fine. Loud is all relative anyway, it may not be too loud for you but on the other hand you may think it is crazy loud.

If you do choose to go with a midpipe at some point just get a better one than the Agency Power midpipe, because it is a terrible combination with the hks or really any other exhaust. Soon(hopefully) I will be replacing one of the resonators with one from BHR to try and get a better sound out of it in the lower rpms.

Thanks on all the feedback. Ever since HKS has stopped importing I've been looking at other exhaust. Borla, Greddy and Racing Beat. I did find a cheap HKS one online so looks like ill be going with that one.

You can find the hks single brand new pretty cheap last I looked. A lot of sites will list it as ~$600 but you can find it cheaper like maybe $450 if you really try. You should contact thmotorsports on this forum and see what they are currently selling it for. I was lucky and found a used one with barely any miles for around $300.

The reason I say go with the BHR midpipe is because its resonator does not use any packing so the sound should never really change. Most other midpipes use some form of packing that gets eaten away by the extreme heat produced by the car and your

I took some sound clips of my car tonight, not the best but it may give you a little more to go on. This was just taken with my cell phone sitting on my lap with the window fully down or halfway down. IT sounds way different outside the car obviously and is pretty loud but not crazy.

^Redline in first after a turn.

^This is around 6k rpm then giving it a little gas after I shifted to second.
