You took the question right out of my mouth. I am going to see what I can find out and I'll post here if I get any good info. Please do the same if you find out anything.
What % tinting were you thinking of getting?

For what it's worth:
I had mine tinted by a guy named Sidney at Auto Mall Tint in Fremont. 510-659-8468. $350 to tint the side windows with V-Kool (metallic) and back with Huper-Optik (ceramic). Both are higher-end tints.
V-Kool provides better protection for a given level of tint but it's metallic which reduces radar detector efficiency by ~70%. Huper-Optik doesn't have this problem since it uses a proprietary ceramic base.
Do not use dye-based tints which will fade to purple over time.
Tinting the driver/front passenger side windows is illegal in california. Using a very light tint gives a good chance of escaping notice. Four years and counting for me.

I looked into the HuberOptik stuff and got quoted around the same that PUR NRG paid. I decided to go with Madico tint (they may have 3M as well) as it will not fade over time and have had no issues with radio reception before or after installation.
The actual installation job was done well but I have to give this place a 5 out of 10 recommendation. The installer strolled in really late and the place was not well organized. A paid exactly $200 for the job.
If you want to venture and give this place a try yourself here is the info.
