GI: Nor Cal Dyno Tune, suspension Tune & Track Weekend at Thunderhill
#32
3 months away, time to get serious about this event. We have 7 people interested in dyno tuning but in order to make if cost effective I would like to have 12 or more. Jeff is very interested in coming out for this event and is even willing to start tuning cars on Friday afternoon.
Looks like 4 people are wanting the BHR crew to do some work on there car, depending on the type of work that may or may not be enough to get them out here. So please specify the extent of work you are wanting done so we can calculate the time and labor expense.
Some of you may already know that I lost my motor a few week back. Looks like a side seal in the rear rotor. My goal is to install a used motor while getting my current motor built. I will also be working on improving intercooler/radiator air flow and oil cooling to keep temps down, which is likely the cause of the seal failure.
My point, is that if I can get my car ready for this, so can you.
Let's make this happen.

What are the typical gains and benefits from an NA tune?
#34
Hey, sorry for the slow response; yes I am looking to do that but because I am also struggling to pay for school there is a large chance it's a year or so off. For the time being I'm doing all the lower end mods. And wouldn't mind an NA tune to hold me over.

Cool. Well I think you can count on me being there.
Just show up saturday morning with cash in hand?
And the only track experience I have is in an F1 car, this count? If so, should I just bring the certificate thing they gave me?

I will be starting the official thread in the next few weeks.
For the hpde you will need to signup at ncrc.com No experience needed for driving school, if you have some track experience, solo group will be fine. BTW if we can get a large enough group of people to do the hpde, I will see about getting everyone the member price which is $125 instead of $135 per day.

BTW I spoke with Charles about installing coilovers, alignments and corner balancing and he made it clear that suspension is not is forte. The install part is no problem but he has no experiance setting the RX8 suspension up for the track. Subsequently he does not feel right about charging anyone for alignment or corner balancing.
I have assured him that it is not a very hard job if he uses my scales/tools plus I have a nice write up from Grassroots Motorsports. I believe he will do a fine job and there is nothing wrong with him charging a fair price for his time.
If he can not be convinced to do the alignments/corner balancing, I know a suspension expert who has owned and worked on rx8's who might be interested in coming out to do the technical suspension work while Charles can do the wrenching.
What Charles would like to do is sale and install some BHR parts. Charles has been a leader in the use of NOS on the rx8, so if you have been contemplating a bottle in your car, now would be the time.

I am driving from fairfield but I take the I-505 to the I-5. Depending on how things work out, I might be there on Friday afternoon and getting a hotel in willows for 2 nights.

I don't think they voted but they are just coming to check it out. I haven't installed turbo yet but I can do that on a weekend. :-)
If you want we can meet where 505 meets I-5 at the Pilot Gas Station good place to fill up probably cheapest gas from there to Willows.

Yeah the one I was selling. No one seems interested so I might as well use it. The only reason I was selling it was because I have had for over a year and just haven't had the time to install it. No more weekend job for me so I will have time.

Okay, 2 months away. Almost time to put your money where your mouth is.
In the next few days I will be nailing down the cost/details and starting an official thread for this event.
-For the dyno tuning I will be collecting a $50 down payment to secure your spot.
-For Dyno only you will pay the operator yourself.
-For BHR work you need to contact Charles at Charles@BlackHaloRacing.com , We will have scales and alignment tools on hand to make small adjustments. If you are looking for installs you need to arrange that with Charles in advance. Depending on your work load, he can come out early and start the work on friday or even thursday.
-To sign up for the HPDE go to www.ncracing.org but before signing up, I will try to work a special price or atleast get non members the member price.
-If you have not voted yet, go ahead and do that now. I will be PMing everyone when I start the offical thread and give you first dibs on dyno time slots.
