Gear stuck and fan always on?

hey guys, yesterday i backed up my car, placed the gear on reverse and it started to grind.....i was pretty much lost, i hit the clutch place the stick back on N, and then R again and it was fine. WTF is that? i think the stick was in the middle of N and R, but should it do that? one more thing, i got out of my car after 10 minutes of driving took out my Key and my Engine fan was still running......i checked my AC and FAN control if i had it on but they wernt..............is it supose to do that?

Occasionally I won't get reverse engaged properly and it will pop out when I start letting out the clutch. Usually this only happens if I've started the car (with the clutch in) and left it in then selected reverse. I guess occasionally the gears dont fully mesh. Letting the clutch out in N and pushing it back in again prior to selecting reverse seems to do the trick every time.

The fan running after shutdown is pretty normal, especially when it's hot out. Mine does it occasionally and is very dependant on the abmient temperature.

Simon.

Yhea like sferrett said that is pretty much normal, my reverse gear has popped out twice, I just would be more careful about it next time. Let the clutch out put it N, then put the clutch back in then put it in R and make sure it is engaged right. I myself need to remember that,

I've done the same when I was at a RX8 meet and everyone around me said that they had the same problem at one time or another. I just followed their advise just like sferrett's and make sure I push the clutch in first. As for the fan still running... oh yes it does that too!

Most cars with electric fans, like the RX-8, keep them running after the cars shuts off to cool the engine. THIS IS NORMAL!
