Esmeril and MM upgrade.....?

I know this might get nasty

but I am looking for a turbo kit right now and they are both in about the same price range

MM = 5800
Esmeril = 5900

and they both pretty much provide about the same equipment for that price like upgraded injectors, fuel pump, etc (MM provide EMU harness, which I would like)

and I think they both give you about the same hp? 300ish right?

what I would like to know are 2 things

1. which one has more potential for power
2. which one would ultimately be more reliable (stable longer without parts breaking, etc etc) at the same whp?

I know the turbo and some components of the two kits aren't the same

please, don't flame each other, its purely from a buyer's perspective,

almost 6k isn't a small amount of money, and i want to make the best choice possible

thankyou in advance ^^

I've been racking my brain for months with the same ?'s . I've decided I'm going with the MM and the accessport. They seem the most user friendly, best useable powerband, etc. But, It depends on what you plan on doing with the 8.

MM's kit : good power band. but can not be upgraded becuase of the location of the turbo. MM's turbo is the biggest you can stuff there. and its so diffuclt to get in/out the turbo....
esmirl kit: I think it has more potential becuase the turbo is placed in the engine bay which is more spacious for bigger ones later.

your price for esmirl does not include engine management
I have MM's kit by the way.

are either of those turbos operating at their max capacity of boost out of the box though?

also, what are your goals?

track car?

street car?

dyno queen?

carpet queen?

Two very different beasts.
The turbo I use is a Garrett water-cooled, ball-bearing turbo that spools like a T3 and flows like a big T4 (over 45 lbs of air - well over 400 HP of capacity).
You might want to enquire about the Esmiril turbo unit.
My kit comes with the E-Manage Ultimate, but you might want to look into the Cobb AccessPORT no mattr which system you get.

Taj if you don't get MM's kit I'll make you put those DIP's back on your car. And if you don't have them anymore, I have a set in the garage just waiting for when you go to sleep.

Both the Esmeril kit and MM's kit are not flowing nearly as much air as they could be from what I understand. MM's kit has the low mounted turbo, which has less upgrade poential and isn't as pretty for engine bay appeal, but if you look at the dyno comparison thread you can see it spools faster than any other turbo on the charts, I'm guessing that it probably spools faster than the Esmeril upgrade as well.

If you want it mainly for show, Esmeril is the prettiest, but if you want it for more power, autocross etc., MM's is better for all of those from what I can tell...

lol easy, yea, I really am going towards MM's turbo, but its mostly because of you guy's recommendations

before MM's kit came out i was seriously considering the esmeril kit, but i talked to scott and some people so I held back

and since esmeril lack a real dyno sheet for me to look at the power band, I can't assume anything for them

I pretty much want power down low, and pretty much keeping the stock curve, its gonna still be my daily driver, but I'm going to track it later on

I also want to ask whether MM's turbo or Esmeril (if anyone knows this) will be more friendly in conjunction with nitrous

ps: I already have the damn EMU.........

why would you still want nitrous when you already have FI, playing with fire man

and as far as the kits go, i thought its really only the turbo that determines the shape of the powerband? the kit itself is just a series of pipes and hoses, u might want to look at the peripherals that come with the kit too? waste gate, bov, intercooler sizing, and lengths of piping on the cold side? EMU etc

from what i understand, the MM kit has the turbo mounted low = slightly better in terms of weight balance, and esmeril claims to have the shortest lengths of piping to and from the intercooler = better throttle response? you might want to consider what these mean

someone correct me if im wrong, i dont have FI myself and this is just what i picked up from flipping through random pages in related threads

lol, nah man, it was just leaking fuelZ, no biggy

besides, coldflames

yea, its the turbo, but if you take a look at it, esmeril and MM turbo comes pretty close in terms of power......

as I said, I am looking for a fun daily driver that is able to go to the track and whoop ***

i need power down low because i usually go stop and go traffic, and mad rush hour = =

you could always use the nitrous on your intercooler.

Jeff, I know your kit is not out yet but does a shorter compressed side leading to the engine make that much of a difference? I was intrigued on how short the amout of compressed air is on the Mazsport 2 kit, the water/air intercooler is right on top of the engine. Another thing you guys are not looking at is MM's kit is 9psi not 13psi. inorder to compare you have to wait for the new MM/BHR kit coming.. when Jeff?

the shorter compressed sides work as well as normal ones, however, it makes installation and clearance that much easier

I will say it here and in the "Esmeril out of the box" thread! THANK YOU! Thank you Esmeril for caring enough to give us a well priced well powered kit!

If you want to whoop *** at the track the turbo will work against you. The more hp the more difficult to control. I ran the same times with my stock RX-8 with R-tires as a 500 hp Volvo on slicks. Granted it was a Volvo but still ;-)

I doubt you need more than stock power too keep up with normal traffic. Lets face it 200ish hp is not weak, it is just not very strong.
