Arrow DFW to Sacramento

I will be making this 1712 mile drive starting Thursday August 11th. I am extremely intimidated by the length of the drive but that isn't taking away the excitement of moving to a new city state. I will hopefully have my Cobb AP installed by then and will be data logging THE WHOLE WAY. I will also take a picture (perhaps with gps tags) every time I stop for gas, food, etc.

Looking forward to meeting all the Northern California RX8 owners!

*not the exact route I will be taking, but it gives you and idea of what I am going to be driving.*

wow^ I have never drivin more than 250 mi. at a time so this is a HUGE trip for me. I'm 17 and will be driving back during the summer to visit family here in DFW.

I bought a case of oil and 4 qts. of Idemitsu premix, 5 gallon gas tank (just in case), a small litter box for the passenger footwell, and an emergency jump starter/air compressor. I don't really think I need anything else in my car. I will be keeping plenty of clothes and stuff in my mothers Volkswagen CC. Our Golden Retriever will ride with her because, well, she has a bigger car. The cat will be riding with me because she has her own little spot where the rear glass is above the back seats where she soaks-up-some-rays and freaks out other drivers.

Lol ^ similar to scremn8 ... all I carried was all the books, clothes, laptop, desktop pc and lots and lots of drinks and snacks .... I would eat something solid when I needed to fill the car up .. and at night sleep and early morning drive again.

Yeah I'm only bringing that stuff because I already had it at the house. What snacks, if any, are good for eating and shifting while NOT making a huge mess with crumbs or sticky fingers etc. I'm allergic to nuts so I obviously can't eat those.

Havng driven all that, you have my sympathy lol. Plan your fuel stops wisely. There are a few spots where you do not want to end up short. It will be a great experience for you regardless. The nice thing about Sacramento is you pretty much have good access to everything. Renoe/Tahoe to the east, Napa/Bay area to the west, etc.

haha yeah plenty of beef jerky. I ate at that one steak house in amarillo that does that 72oz challenge and it was good. Going to go to Cadillac ranch in the morning before stopping for the night somewhere in New Mexico

Well I'm here! I left my phone in the cup holder area with the lid closed and it overheated so now my phone is messed up. I have more pictures but they are on a mini sd card in my phone.

Old thread i know BUT, I made the dfw to sf drive but instead of going through nevadas corner i had to make a stop in socal so went the border route then cut north to SF. All this in my SR20 240sx with no A/c.... only drove at night so that helped BIG time

Given the gas prices around that time, its about the same price for an airline tix. I was thinking given the mileage range of the 8's, it would have been atleast double that.

I was drinking gas. I would fill up every other gas station which was about 70-80 mi and I would be at around half a tank. My moms vw CC gets 40 mpg and she was just shaking her head...
