I'm planning to get 3M clear bra on my '8 soon. I waited awhile as they didn't yet have templates but I guess that's been solved. If anyone else is interested maybe we can gang up on a vendor and negotiate a discount.

I've always had my tinting done at a place on Miramar Road and they've done high-quality work at a good price. They do 3M there so I will assume they provide the same level of quality with that. I've never had this treatment before so I can't specifically say.

Any takers? I'm ready to move on this and I'm gonna do window tinting at the same time.

I'm down for tinting. I just bought a bra for it so I know my wife won't allow the extra money for the 3M but we both want the window tinting and have been waiting for a reputable tinter to be named.

I've used Diamond Tinting up on Miramar Road for several cars. They've done excellent work that has held up over the years and use top-quality materials. Maybe not the cheapest but with tinting you really do get what you pay for.

 

I'll give em a shot. I need to get it done and haven't found someone I trust since moving back.

I just spoke to Steven, the owner. He hasn't seen an RX-8 kit yet but I told him other installers have it so he'll check with his supplier on Monday. I also told him I'm trying to coordinate a group buy and see what kinda discount he can offer. I'll post his answer when I hear back.

What I asked him to price is the basic kit (hood and mirror, which only goes a few inches up the hood.) That will leave a seam across the hood but you won't see it from more than a few feet away. Additionally the grill kit which I take to mean all painted surfaces around the grill. Finally, I asked about rear bumper because that where I always seem to get the most chips from pebbles. I would guess if we do a group buy we each separately could pick and choose how much coverage we want; it's all computer cut anyway.

If anyone else has a vendor they deal with go ahead and get a similar estimate so we can compare. If I don't hear from anyone I'll do my own comps in a few days. So who's up for this?

thanks for the info. I'm definitely interested in tinting and maybe the mirrors and rear bumpers for the clear bra. Let me know. I have no connections in the car world out here.

 

Hey, I finally heard back from Diamond tinting. He says the price for hood, fenders, mirrors and front bumper is $670. He can give us a $50 discount for a group buy, so $620. There is no pre-cut for the rear bumper but once he sees an '8 he'll look at doing a custom job.

I dunno; I think we should shop around. Anyone know any other good shops who can give us a quote?

Just talked to Clear Statement of San Diego that specializes in 3M paint protection film. They can do the same service (hood, fender, mirrors, bumper) with 3M paint protection film. The cost is a steal. -- $550.00 installed RX-8 kit. The kits cover more area on the hood up to 12-21 inches. Other car kits are also available - prices vary on models and year.
