California registration fee refunds

I bought my car during the time when registration fees tripled in price. Governor Schwarzenegger changed it back and some refund checks were sent out a few weeks ago.

Has anyone received a refund check? I am still waiting for my check.

I beleive the higher rates started at October 1st. I purchased the car October 4th. About $900 in registration fees.

I had to call the dealership and ask for my check to be sent out. Seems as if the dealership were holding onto the checks for way too long. So you have to call and ask because the dealership are lagging with the checks.

I thought the refunds are coming from California, not the dealer. Am I wrong?

All I know is that when I went to pick up my plates the DMV was jammed packed due to people dealing with the increased tax and getting it back.

No, the refund checks should come from the dealership where you purchase the car. They were the ones who did all the DMV registrations papers. So basicallly the DMV sends a check to the dealership with excess registrations amounts. The dealership should turn around and issue a check in your name in the excess amount. If you have not received the check, call your dealership about this matter.

Got my refund

I got my refund from the State of California yesterday. Nice bit of cash that will be going to new tires.

rX8rEdLiNe: did you lease your car? Or through a loan? For reference I purchased cash.
