Angry Calif. DMV fees tripling Oct. 1?

I was at the Mazda dealership today, and they told me that CA DMV registration fees were tripling on Oct. 1. Is this true? So, instead of a $500 registration fee, will it now be $1,500? That's ridiculous!

I was at Tustin Mazda in Orange County, and it looks like cars are starting to pile up there. Are RX-8 sales starting to slow? Maybe now they'll negotiate on price? Of course, if it takes a while, I'd have to negotiate at least a $1,000 discount to make it worth it after Oct. 1.

To your first question, yes our illustrious future ex-Governor raised the VLF(Vehicle License Fees).

Second, I was piucking up maintenance items for the RX-7 and you are right, there are a lot of RX-8's at Tustin Mazda. I mentioned it to the parts counterman that he has each color/trim under the reainbow out front and he said they have 20 more in the back lot. hmmm....

No markup at Tustin Mazda. In fact, no dealership I've gone to is marking them up, but they all say, "We're the only ones not marking them up."

This is my first post on this forum ever since I joined. I'm basically a person like several here that is highly interested in the RX8. I have spoken to several dealers in New Jersey, New York, and California. All say they aren't allowed to go above MSRP. One from NY stated wait a while soo that the price will go down. I am not sure if that meant the prices of the RX8 will go down anytime soon but it will probably not apply to me since I'm moving from NJ to CA and I need a car ASAP. But if the price of registration fees go up, that will make it extremely hard for me since I already have other expenses I have to worry about. Yet alone gas that I hear costs around $2.25 for regular where in NJ it costs $1.80 for super. Trying to find reasons for me to not buy this car isn't hard lately from what I have read and heard soo far. Too bad I really love the RX8 and really want this to be my very first car that I own.

Mazda strongly recommends that dealers stick to MSRP (it can't dictate to them.) However, most of the dealers in the Bay Area have ignored this request. The typical markup ranges from +1K to +5K (check other threads for verification of this.)

I hunted around and purchased from a dealer which conformed to Mazda's request.

kind of off topic and i dont support Gray Davis what so ever

but the Car tax wasn't really his fault. The last admininstration approve a bill that would lower registration fees (knowing well that the next administration will have to deal with the problem of fees being reverted when the bill expires). IT just so happens that the term of the bill expires during the summer (i guess). Davis couldnt do anything about it.

btw, Vote Arnold
