Any mechanic recommendations in OC?
I just got a coolant hose leak, at least that what I hope the minimum damage is (knock on wood). It started a couple miles from my work locations with a weird higher pitch noises when I accelerated at low RPM. The engine did make some weird noises a few times at low accelerated RPM as well. Could be both related to the coolant leaking from the hose.
I work near Jamboree/73. Are there any mechanics and I guess doesn't have to be an rx8 expert, that any of you guys can recommend? I am going to cool the engine down for a few hours, fill the coolant tank with water as I still have at least a quarter to half fill in there and get to a close mechanic. Thanks! |
absolutely.
call up NeptuneSpeed in HB, they're not far from where you are. This is the only Rotary shop I use in OC and they've been AWESOME to me over the years and dozens of other members here as well. 714-842-8548 17222 Gothard St Huntington Beach, CA 92647 I'll actually be there later today dropping off some parts for a little work they're doing on Monday. :) |

Thnx for the reply..
I have been to neptunespeed before and they were great both times. But HB is still a little ddrive away and concerned that if I drive that far, the coolant might get in the engine or other areas? Should I be concerned about that? |
ezaki: what are you looking for?
|
just spoke to NS and they are overflowing with cars. any other secondary options?
|
yeah, there is another....
Rotary reliability and racing/Fast Freddies. They're located in costa mesa on Harbor & edinger (if i remember correctly) Google them. They're also another very good rotary shop. how bad is the leak? has the needle moved on the gauge? |
^ ya, hes right that one
|
@jedi: jst for future reference :!
|
ezkai: definitely remember to call up Neptune any time you need any work or maintenance done. Yoshiya and Co. are awesome.

I use castrol GTX, 5w-30 or 10w-30 for summer months.
Amsoil is good but a bit pricey. |

Jedi, Neptune called me back and they will be done with a car in their garage and have room for me in the afternoon. I am going tow my car out there, i dont want to risk it. Should be there around 4pmish.
|
^:bigok:
out of curiousity - was there something that caused the leak? like did you hit something or were you in a minor fender bender?? |

Ironically enough, the 1st time my car was ever there was also courtesy of a tow truck. :( This is typically a very busy month for them as everyone is getting ready for SevenStock. |
ya i know, i abused my mr2 a lot so i thought i d have to.
thinking about royal purple, but i had a bad experience with my mr2, it burned out too fast, good for racing but not daily driven, not sure how is it gonna work with rotary. Imma try castro this time ... thanks :) |

I'm using Royal Purple 5w-20, still fine. If you think about daily driver, try 5w-30. Next time I will try the Motul :D and be aware of Mobil 1 Titanium advance!
|
i used royal purple for about 3 1/2 years...
then i blew my motor at 60k... ....went back to gtx :eyetwitch |

just to update. I did drop my car off at NS and the guys there are extremely nice... So the quick test is that my water pump is what failed and might have to replace my radiator.. Something i was thinking about anyways, so might be worth it to do even if it is not failing... Thnx again!

Thanks Jedi! Yoshida is great and has been keeping me updated with status the past few days.

Awesome to hear he's taking great care of your car. I dropped my car off there a few hours ago and it looked like they were almost done with your car.
|
Jedi: who is that?
Dream: NO!!! DO NOT DO THAT! :scared: |

I just got my car and the water pump is fixed and the rx8 is driving fine overall. But now, i am having stalling issues with low idle when RPM gets below 1K. It does not even hesitate, it goes straight down to the stall. I am going to run the car a bit and see if it improves. I might have to change the plugs and coils. the odd thing is I did not have recent stalling issues.
|
check the maf to see if it's secure. Long shot but worth a try.

try resetting the Eshaft (do a search, the procedure is posted here) if it stays that way, take it back to Neptune, I'm sure they can figure it out. |
Sounds good, will check on the eshaft tonight. Thanks for the advice.
|
if they unplugged the battery then the car will do that until the trim has reset it's self. a few miles of straight driving will fix it if that is the case

I did clean the MAF and did the 20 brake pump eshaft reset... I was not able to clean the ESS though, i probably will do that tomorrow hopefully. and i did get the CEL that read low idle and on one of them was a misfire. |
may be a vacuum leak.

look around the break booster, and the intake. depending on where the leak
was maybe something got knocked loose. |
^ will do...
just to add info. The car does not stall out when I start it cold as the rpms stay above 1K for 20-30 seconds. After the engine gets warm, it does seem like fuel is cut off and engine dies anytime under 1K rpm. Once yesterday, it did not stall out, but every other time, it did. |
off the head guess: vacuum leak
long shot guess: fuel pump issue? |
why have you not gone back to get it looked at?
fuel pump is a very long shot as those usually surface under heavy load or when low on fuel and banking. daniel; yours is the car that had the water pump replaced, correct? wasn't it seized? could have overheated the motor and caused damage. |
