Why different sizes?

Given the RX-8's near-50/50 weight distribution, its neutral handling (with a slight tendency towards understeer, if anything), and its lack of tire-shredding gobs of horsepower, I'm curious why you feel the need to put wider wheels on the rear than the front.

It seems to me that this would upset the dynamics of a vehicle that has pretty damned good dynamics already, so I'm left to assume that this is purely for aesthetics - a triumph of form over function.

Or am I missing something?

eccles - the wheels can be either staggered or universally sized however on a rear wheel car typically wheels are set at a staggered size. Since power comes from the rear wheels we choose to list a wider rear rim. If you are interested in keeping the same size front and rear wheels we also have them available that way. I do have to admit i do enjoy the look of some big ole tires on the back of car though.....

mikeb - no tires included in this deal if you are looking for wheels and tires please call so that we can quote the right tire application for you.....

What are the weights on those rims. I would like to get rims that are lighter then the stock ones (20lbs)

That offset is rather low, from what I gather anything lower than 48 offset could cause excess wear on your bearings over time.

As far as the offset goes, some wheels (depending upon model or design) use different offsets. I haven't heard of an issue with the wheel bearrings. I have heard from more than one person that if you race your car you should repack the bearrings after avery 4 hrs of track use. The only other issue i've heard is that if the offset isn't correct the wheel may not clear oversized brakes. The sizes were given to us by the knoledgable staff at Volk Racing and they are usually spot on.

Vivid,

Thanks for showing the wheels.

I think wider rear rims on the car appropriate for two reasons:

1. The DSC on the car forces the car to handle in a neutral fashion, but many say the natural tendency of the car is to oversteer; this becomes apparent when DSC is disabled. In other words a little more grip in the rear is not a bad thing, IMO. (and I do say little because going to a 10 percent wider wheel/tire isn't going to change drastically anyway)

2. Getting wider rear wheels now is not a bad idea for those who think there is a good chance they will be adding more engine power latter.

As far as the offset is concerned, anything goes for the rear wheels as long as they fit, but for the fronts the more you deviate from the stock 50mm the more "scrub radius" is generated thus handling and unnecessary strains are put on the steering components. 40 mm is fine but IMO 30 mm or less is not a good suggestion.

Do you guys carry the Racing Hart CX's and, in general, have you done fittings on 19" rims and the RX8?

The LE37T stands for Limeted Edition and has a machined lip. The TE37 is a solid color.
