Just my opinion, but I'm not a huge fan of staying in SA and driving up there during the day and all the way back. I know you guys say it's not that far, but that adds an extra 100 miles of driving to the day if we stay north of 1604. Normally, driving is a good thing, but after driving last year, I was EXHAUSTED when we got back to the hotel. Knowing that we still have an extra hour of driving just to get back to the hotel kind of bothers me.

It's been my experience that when getting a group of 6+ cars together, you should expect to do about 50mph and add an extra 15-20 min to your trip. Yes, I understand we all know how to drive and all that, but I just think we are making things more difficult than they need to be.

Also, knowing that everyone is staying there at the hotel, it gave us a great opportunity to hang out with people from all over for as long as we wanted. We could all drink and have fun and not worry about a thing. When you got tired, or too drunk ::cough WTBRotary cough::, you could just head back to your room. If we are in SA, I would imagine alot of that group will want to head back to their own places to crash for the night, and I don't blame them for that.

I just think if we keep trying to change it up every year, it'll never really take off. It's one thing to try and find a better hotel (although I didn't have any complaints), or better communication, but moving the meeting spot to a completely different city 60 miles away really changes things. If you look at all the big meets, they do the SAME THING in the SAME PLACE every year. I thought last year was a success (minus Kevo's unfortunate accident), and I think we should build on that.

That's just my $.02.

While taking a minor break from my homework...

I 100% agree with Kyle here, everything he says here. Kerrville it is, I never thought about what he just posted and every bit of it is true. This is a State meet, people in SA shouldnt be allowed to go back to their houses.. BLEH and in case theres PROM again i wanta be getting "good and tight"- Stewie, family guy [url]

Poll is incoming.

Riley Craven 01-25-2010 09:03 AM

Poll has been posted.

DATE IS OFFICIALLY SET AT APRIL 30th-May1st

Creto 01-25-2010 09:26 AM

I agree with Kyle.

Let the poll results speak. Just look at a map guys, the Helotes route is better and doesn't really add anymore distance. I think most of us SA guys could care less because we just roll back into town anyway.

I thought your exams didnt start till the 6th???

Going back through the thread it seemed like April 30th was the way everyone was heading. I didnt get too much hit on mid may dates (and your first post was no may dates at all) The 30th seemed like a date no one was really complaining about it and mid April was the Deals Gap event (and I'm sure as hell not going to try and compete with another big event that has rotarys even if they are completely separate audiences...)

deadphoenix52 01-25-2010 11:23 AM

they don't. but my classes are picking up fast. especially diff eq. i dont know if taking the weekend off would be the best thing to do the week before exams. so right now im just assuming i cant go. then ill be super extra happy depending on my course load.

but why is it so early??

Weather mainly, the further out it gets pushed the hotter it gets. Even Motor Sport Ranch shuts down in the summer because of heat issue.

makes sense.

well you kids have fun. WTBbrandon take a shot of vodka for me!

Nick...so are you for sure out or just waiting to see how things go?

Grungepup 01-25-2010 12:01 PM

I would even suggest moving the date to late March or early April, hotel prices will be cheaper and the roads less crowded. We (SARX) did a run last year in early March and pretty much had the road to ourselves.

And as for extending the run from SA, apparently they didn't see the map of the proposed route. It doesn't extend the amount of driving, but it does break up the strenuous portions of it. The run we did in March was the exact same as what I posted, with the exception of the run up to Junction, and we were done in less than 3 hours hence why we did the sisters twice. Even with that we were back in San Antonio by 4:30.... here is the run we did

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...63&ie=UTF8&z=9 google puts it at 7 hours and I can tell you that even with 2 trips around the sisters we didn't even come close to 7 hours of driving

I wouldn't be opposed to making it earlier, the problem we are going to run into is a lack of planing time if we do it much sooner. Still need to chorale sponsors etc. It would have to be early April though because I dont want to compete with spring break in march (budget issues)

Grungepup 01-25-2010 12:16 PM

I also contacted the managers of the local hotels, they wouldnt give exact prices unless we can guaranty atleast 10 rooms. The prices change the weekend of the 23th, according to one manager "SUMMER" pricing takes effect the first weekend of May. Without knowing the amount of rooms needed, the price could be as low at 65 and as much as 90 per night.

I am waiting on a call back from two managers that are looking into the best pricing.

I'm not sure we could actually fill 10 rooms. There were a lot of people in 2009 but alot of us double and quad book rooms.

seatownracer 01-25-2010 12:46 PM

Yeah it really is hard to tell how many rooms seeing it always seems to be just the DFW guys along with a few others that actually get rooms.

Hopefully Houston will show up this year!.......YEAH I just called you guys out! lol.

Grungepup 01-25-2010 12:55 PM

OK so based on 10 or fewer rooms, the regional manager for Quality Inn and Suites called me back with a rate of 59.99 a room with 2 queen beds. They have 2 locations close to the Bandera/1604 intersection that would be able to serve us. One is right there and the other is about a 5-10 min drive.

If you decide to move the location back to Kerrville I will see what they can do about accommodating us there.

seatownracer 01-25-2010 01:03 PM

Cool thanks for the info!

If we end up doing it in Kerrville we were also thinking about looking into those cabins as well.

Alright, I voted :)

Grungepup 01-29-2010 11:21 AM

Quick update from the Hotel front..... I guess since I didn't get to her, the regional manager called me this morning saying that they have another hotel in the area that will offer a 49.99 rate per night for the same type of room (2 queen or 1 king). I did tell her about the possibility of the event moving back to Kerrville and she said she would put together a package for that location as well.

seatownracer 01-29-2010 12:05 PM

Sounds good, thank you for the information.....we should be able to give them an answer on the location soon.
