The Texas 8 State Meet 2010 (Quad state area welcome)
Hey guys, its getting to be that time of year again for the Texas State Meet.
DATE IS OFFICIALLY SET AT APRIL 30th-May1st Please let me know what everyone is thinking about. If you have other suggestions please let us know. As always check out the site at www.thetexas8.com |
Yeah lets make this year bigger and better.......hopefully we can get more Houston people this year!!! :)
By the way I am down for whatever dates. |
um....no may dates. idk my exam schedule. and if there's a monday holiday. that'd be prefered. for nick
|
We were just talking about this .......
I was gonna suggest that instead of having the meet in Kerrville that we have it in San Antonio. There are better places to stay, things to do, and routes to leave from. Not to mention that we can have an after run BBQ at a local park or even a local's house. |
i'm also gonna try and have the 7 inspected and all by this event. even though there's no way i'd take it on the drive.

Fuuuuuck yahhhhhh! Should have rims and coilovers on by this time. Gotta plan some more exterior mods before this goes down.
|
i can only do april 16-17 or 30-1.....
|
April is good. I'm going to Colorado on May 20th for a week so.............
Riley, we can take a different route from SA and do the same roads but in SA there are places to really party and better places to stay. |

I was suggesting that the Meet stay in San Antonio and leave from here, there are plenty of back roads that lead to the three sisters.
|

Riley, we can take a different route from SA and do the same roads but in SA there are places to really party and better places to stay. The only concern I have with staying in SA is time. Starting out in Kerrvile and doing the whole complete run takes close to a day. If we stay in SA that's going to add 2 hours to an already full day of driving which could lead to people be very tired by supper. |
I'll keep yall posted on dates for the state meet... But I'm totally down...
|
We are ready... Hell yeah we are bringing 2 8s this year...
|
I will ask grungepup and kevo to provide route data. If we start out on HWY16 and Bandera I don't think it will add any extra driving to and from. That route is good from the start.
|
Actually, we did a run a while back where we Started out at Hwy 16 and 1604, ran up to Bandera, then onto Medina, followed by 2!!!! trips around the three sisters. We left around 11 because of stragglers and were back and done by 5. The original run we had planned called for 8 hours according to google, but that calculation is based on going 35mph through most of the roads. We were completed with the run by 2 and some decided to head home while a few of us decided to tackle the three sisters a second time.

Here is a run that we had planned in the past but never went on. It brings in some new roads as well as a new place to eat. If everyone is ok with BBQ, there is Cooper's BBQ in Junction and has plenty of seating and even an outdoor eating area. This route also changes up the way we attack the sisters, we would be doing the 2 majors legs in reverse and at the same time breaking it up giving the drivers to recoup before hitting up the second leg. I also added in a stop at Garner State Park for a photo op, ofcourse that can be changed. |
oh yeah.. and the dates... remember that the week leading into the 16-17th of April is Fiesta for San Antonio. Which comes with good and bad, the good is there is plenty of things happening that weekend, we could even shorten the run so people can rest up and hit up the carnival that night or some other event. The bad would be traffic in San Antonio. I am not sure how the hotel/motel situation would be, I doubt many tourists come in and stay that far from downtown as we would be.

I will respectfully disagree here. I would not like to come to a State meet to cut the driving short for a carnival. This is meet for driving, now I wouldn't mind going around the Three Sisters twice then after the meet hang out and chill for the Fiesta but I don't think we should cut drive time. Just my opinion, I came to drive baby not chill lol |

People have been asking me for something a bit new in regards to the meet and this may be just the change it needed. On dates, its looking like based on the feedback so far April 30 May 1st |
Yeah, the run from HWY 16-Loop 1604 was a good one, too bad I did one lap :)
This is the best run, I agree. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...3,1.738586&z=9 |

|
i have exams early may too but as long as its the weekend it wont matter
|
<--- liar.
i just double checked. exams start the 6th. i have one the 8th. my b. i still say the 14th would be best tho considering ill be back in dallas and able to drive down with youz guyz. |
I'm pretty sure I'm down for any of the April dates. I also know several people in the Boerne/San Antonio area that would be down for tagging along. Unless we are trying to stay a Mazda crowd this year, then they might just ride along. As far as starting from SA the drive out is almost as fun as the 'drive' itself. It's not as tight and twisty, but it's still fun. And remember that last year we stopped in Medina, which is on the way back anyway. And more cinnamon apple ice cream.
|
That ice cream is the shit. My kids and I have rolled out there on a whim a couple of times.

Sat Morning we all meet at the hotel for instructions and maps. We then head out in a big group to basically drive the roads all day. We take breaks along the way for pictures food and gas. The reason this is such a big deal is that the roads (when there is no traffic in front of us) are great because they are very twisty. I encourage you to check out the website: www.thetexas8.com |
Isnt April 16-17 DGRR?

I notice that was your first post, so you probably do not share the friendships that alot of us do having known each other for years. That 5 hour trip flies by so quickly when you and a bunch of your friends get together and drive down in one group. I'd encourage you to think about it some more, and possibly meet the DFW group on the way down. |
