no, it's the site, trust me.

For the moment, I have to settle for a 30k dial-in connection. And most of the time, that dinky dial-in connection is actually waiting for a response from the server. Since the dial-in connection is always running behind with every other site and forum that I'm on, it seems to me that there is a performance issue with this site.

This forum as well as the RX-7 forum are hosted on the same computer. The RX-7 forum is a super busy site and this forum gets hit hard because of it. Not only that but the admins seem to be constantly battling software issues and I can also tell you that they have hosting/ISP issues as well. On several occasions their ISP has simply dissapeared from the Internet too, no kidding!

Maybe it's time we get another server. Once the RX-8 hits the shores this site is going to get flooded with posts like. I have noticed more and more problems. I just want to help.

I appreciate the sentiment, but what are you really willing to do? About all we can use is money. We need about $3000 to buy another webserver and a proxy server. Then we can setup our load-balanced cluster and watch all these problems go bye-bye.

I'm down. Seriously, if everyone that used this site as often as I do sent you $10-50, we would be set. Throw me an address and I'll cut you a check. Its only fair for the services you've provided.

That is assuming it gets used for its purpose, which I'm sure it would.

edit:
Or set up a paypal donation thing, that way I can charge it and not have to exert any unnecessary energy

I work for Computer distributer. I can get parts to build a server pretty cheap. I would donate 20.00 to get this site running better. I'm sure others that enjoy this forum will do the same. I hope.

I'll setup a PayPal donation button ...

I appreciate the offer for cheap parts, but we really want to order something new from our ISP so that we have 24 hour hardware support. With a full-time job myself, if something breaks it would be days before I had a chance to fix it ... so we leave it up to the ISP.

We'd really like to also buy a new database box, or at least upgrade the current database box from P3 933's to P3 1.3 ghz's and add 2 more 36 gig drives to make a RAID 10.

This stuff is REALLY expensive!

Thats a great idea. Maybe we should put somewhere in the sig that this member donated, or something like that. If you need anything let me know. Yeah those drives are like 215 a piece (ballpark)

that made me think of this:

Sean Connery: I've got to ask you about the ***** Mightier.

Alex Trebek: What? No. No, no, that is The Pen is Mightier.

Sean Connery: Gussy it up however you want, Trebek. What matters is does it work? Will it really mighty my *****, man?

Alex Trebek: It's not a product, Mr. Connery.

Sean Connery: Because I've ordered devices like that before - wasted a pretty penny, I don't mind telling you. And if The ***** Mightier works, I'll order a dozen.

Alex Trebek: It's not a ***** Mightier, Mr. Connery. There's no such thing!

Nicholas Cage: Wait, wait, wait.. are you selling ***** Mightiers?

Alex Trebek: No! No, I'm not.

Sean Connery: Well, you're sitting on a gold mine, Trebek!

I think you should put the donation button somewhere more obvious. Personally, I never check the announcements
