I just wanted to know why you guys added the image verification to search. Now whenever I do a search I feel like I'm buying tickets from ticketmaster. This is also probably going to make new people search even less. I guess I'll just have to login more often to get around this.

I agree. Making search easier makes more sense. Also, at least it would be better if the the image verification were less numbers or easier to read.

How about not letting people post until they have done a pre-determined number of searches?

limiting search is never about spam - it's about saving system resources. with a few proxies one could bring a site to a crawl just by doing searches. Most any other feature (browsing, looking at posts, etc) are optimized and don't use up as much cpu.
