Member locator function

Something in the terms of type your zip in and have maybe 25-50-100-200 mile radius or more for a search so you can see where all the 8's are in your area. It would be nice to see where everyone is so hangouts and maybe trade or selling parts would be easy to do, or just to cruise and hopefully see another fellow 8.

Demo is on page 2, post 27.

I have a friend that just signed up, and just put like a small flier on one about this site today. It would be nice if you know the people in your area, since maybe they might know about this site, but don't really post, that way you can send them a pm for stuff like meets or a nice cruise.

I see how they are sorta the same, but just a little diff still. At least great minds think alike. Don't know why people wouldn't want to do this. Like I said before, it would make everything easy since not everyone who signs up might not post anything, but just look at pictures or try to fix there problems without asking for help. Well, lets hope this time we get heard.

I think the more people that post, and also, the more people that have had similar threads or ideas that post also should, that we can't go unnoticed this time I hope.

I'm game. Shortly I'll be moving all around the country, so this could help me get resettled into new groups and such.

Good idea guys. I think that this would be an awesome feature to add the website. It beats the hell out of having a thread entitled "calling all 8 owners from.....". Nice work all.

Someone in the Gulf section (houston I think..Bumblebee maybe) had a link and you could put a little marker on the map where you lived... it was kinda cool, but nobody used it really.

I believe I've seen it and it was nice et. The thing about having this function on the site is we already have the account here instead of having to sign up with another place, which I don't like having 100's of accounts everywhere with ton's of passwords, usernames so on.

I believe if it is on here maybe by the search button, a lot of people would use. Simple, practical and down to the point with most likely no problems.

So whats going on? I see so many 8's, but sometimes never get ahold of them. Just think how all the I spotted you threads would disappear.

Beats the hell out of me. I know coming back from kent island I saw a few 8's, but then again have no idea if they are people on here, or just the regular bunch of people that just want a fancy car and that's it.

If this ever does take off, it doesn't have to be that specific, just like a little dot or something on the map somewhat around where people live, that way when you drive past a crap load of 8's in a day, and get home you just type in the zip or whatever, and be like oh that's my buddy, then you could send a pm or whatever, and say I saw you. Sure beats spotted threads since half the time you never get anyone.

If there was some kind of logo/graphic we could place on our rides that identify us to others. Obviously it would have to be something easily visible and not gaudy.

I might be able to build a website to do this.

Least as a start, I can probably get a page that lets you input some basic info, like zip code, forum name and have it stored in a database and then have a google map show where and who you are in some manner.

What about this.

I can do this with a google map and a database.

If you are in the USA you can add yourself by zip code. For each zipcode that has users it will display a marker on the map and if you hover over the marker it will show you a list of usernames.

If you are out side the USA I don't have a better solution other than to enter your country and then a marker will be placed on the center of the country and have a list of users from that country.

There is a lot I can do with a google map and user locations but this is start.

That sound's like a great idea, but someone already tried something similar on myspace and it didn't take off. I for one am not into having to sign up for another account since I have too many already. Now if a mod or admin would let you help to do that with this site that would kick some a$$.

Or build the website, then have a link like member locator up by the search button where you don't have to worry about a new account, if the mods would do that, but you'd have to ask them again.

The myspace was a good idea, just like yours also, but you gotta remember a lot of people that are on this site don't want to have to visit another page to do something that is not on this site, so once and if this gets started, I could probably bet that that function would get used quite a bit.

One more thing, to actually get the member's on the map there would have to be a mass pm or something for people to start this by either adding the zip to there profile, or having the add themselves to the map.

One other thing about having it on this site is that more then likely this site will be around for years. What happens if the person that would make an individual page would get rid of there 8, or looses the account etc...., then all that info would be gone and no one has it anymore.

All I can say is make a demo of this idea and show it to the mods and admins so they could actually see this in real life, I'm sure I could gather some of my friends zips if you wanted to try it.

there would be no sign up, this would be a simple form and you just put in your username, country and zip code and thats it.

I can make a demo and use my hosting to host it. I have the basics down so I could probably have a demo up by tonite (Im in EST. time)
