ok quick and dirty version. to give an idea

http://starshipvonbraun.com/rx8/gmap.aspx

Can only zoom map at the moment with the mouse wheel. Only have some names on the east portion of the USA. A couple of other countries have a marker but no names.

The popups could easily include any other info if wanted like maybe, RX 8 year, color etc.

That's nice, I likey. Good job, like how the way you click on it and it's right to the point, and I see your in PA also, so next time I'm around that way I'll have to pm you.

This is what I'm trying to get here, so this would work perfect, and to get it added to this site would be a nice jump also. Just think when you go on a cruise you can bring up the map and see who you will run into, or pm so you can meet them somewhere to hang out.

I might send a pm to someone and see if they will do or try to help.

Bigbacon, give you props. I was the one who tired the Myspace thing. If you can get a mod or admin to sticky it ad give a link it might just fly. I'll throw my support to you.

Start a forum petition for a sticky with a link. ;D

Let me get some other functionality in there. I still need to get a list a countries into a table. I have a few out there but not many.

Anyone can use that link above and play around, there is not a form to put your name into and pick a country if yours is listed.

I've added myself to both maps. Sticky would be nice, but better yet up with all the other function there would be (Member Locator) that you just click on just like search, user cp etc... and just go straight there.

I have no idea where you would make this a sticky that people would actually see unless you where to put it in the regional forums. I hope this works this time hearing how all other times and ways it just withered away.

Thanks guys for posting. We just need to let more people know and voice there two cents, the more the better. I e-mailed a mod to see what can be done or what we can do so just waiting on that for now. So if you guys know more people tell them and have them come over to look at this if you want.

I posted to it as well. BigBacon if you can make it where there is a member search engine based on state/city that would be cool.

The only other thing I would recommend it make sure there is some way to remove your tag or move it if you move. Also give someone else admin rights to it, so not everyone is coming to you with issues.

You'll have to let us know what the limitations are with this thing.

Yea sure, we can make it do whatever you want we would just need to collect info on what people want to do.

The only problem with having changes like I moved or I dont want to be listed anymore would make it need some kind of log in to work which seemed to be a negative aspect of other atempts at this. It could be as easy as giving admin powers to someone and if you need something changed then an admin would do it.

Its all up to the forum though, could easily make a search by country/state etc.

Edit:

Some other idea are, but might include more work on the forum end is being able to link actions from links in the forum but that means modifying forum code which I am pretty sure would not ever happen.
Also, it should be possible to have a 3rd level domain point to something like this, like map.rx8club.com or something.

Again these are all just thoughts and I'm sure not all these things can or would happen but anything is possible.

While it's an interesting idea, this would be a pretty complicated change for the forum, and I don't know that we have the resources to have anyone go mess with vBulletin right now to add something like this in. This may seem like an obvious answer, but have you tried using the regional forums? I've had no problem finding people that way, and in general, people who want to be found and hang out will post in those forums. Granted, it's not a perfect solution, but that is why the regional forums are there.

Changing the forums probably isn't a good idea.

Either way, I had fun learning to use the google map to do this. I'll leave it out there for people to play with. You can filter now by country/state.

I think the one good thing about the map is it gives you that visual of where people in your state/region are. The regional forum just doesn't give you that. Maybe it has some crazy fun factor for your brain.

The regional forums are fine, and I have meet a lot of good people on them. Bare with me, just trying to word things right, but I live in bfe, and some members on here don't really post much, but just lurk in the shadows, and from time to time I find myself or others taking some massive trips, or adding threads in the regionals for car shows or what not, with no replies sometimes.

I have meet people on this site that are members, but don't really post, or go on much, but when I see them we talk for hours, and discuss things about the forum or meets and so forth.

I figured if there was some kinda of map that you could see where some people are and just pm them for these get togethers, or just passing by on long trips that it would have a more positive affect and keep some of the forums a little more clean if that makes any sense.

I understand what you are saying, and where your coming from. I'm sure though the map on here is still gonna get more populated as time goes on, and it is so far an ideal addition with time. One question though, after all the bugs, and everything is basically perfected, would there be a way to have a link or something that would take you to the map from the other list at the top of this site, say around the usercp through the search? Sorry, I lied one more question, if this can't happen, could we possibly make it a sticky in each of the regional forums?. That way everyone around the world can see it, and add if they please.

Thank you for your comment, and reading all this.

Ok so I then have to ask two questions, the first to BigBacon.

Can you post the link in each regional forum, so they all point to the same map?

My second question would be to admin Elara.

If he can post the link so it point to one map, would the forum be willing to sticky it so it would always be at the top of each forum?

It's also a great system for grand theft auto.

Ren, you only have to worry about that if you have a honda. Anyway, if people were worried about that, they wouldn't sign up on site's like this, and if they seen another 8 in there area, they would hide there car.

Ren I see your point with concerns. But if your truly worried about your car being stolen dont post your address.

Put the city, I mean I would not go as far as using my name like John in my screen name on another site or posting where I work like Crown.

I mean that would be crazy to give information like that. Someone could find you easily even from the other side of the country.

The sad part about everything is. That if you are on the internet by nature you can be found by anyone that wants to find you.

If you have a Myspace, Facebook, AIM or any other post. Someone could find you.

Hell every time I interview a new hire for my store I Google them and check myspace and facebook. If I see them with 420 posted all over their site and posting blogs about how they hate their jobs because they hate their customers. They don't get an invite back.

So I'll be on the Map.
