Getting booted off

Just a suggestion; if the website allows p.m.'s of 5,000 characters, how about allowing enough time to type that many before the site automatically logs me off? Every time I try to send a detailed message to someone, I get kicked off.

Thanks.

That's weird- are your cookies set strangely? I sent multi-page pms pretty often, and I've never been kicked off.

Ignorant

Hey Elara,

I am not sure what the deal is. I do know that I am a bit more concerned with the performance of my RX than I am the performance of my computer, so I imagine the problem is user-oriented(haha). I do know that I frequently write a p.m. and attempt to send it only to discover that I am no longer logged-on. On the other hand, I can click a few pages back, go to other sites, come back, and still sometimes be logged-on. Quite frustrating! Thanks for pointing out the cookies and such.

Charles

You can always open up a Word or Wordpad window, type in your letter, then cut/paste it into the PM.

On the issue of typing long posts and not being able to send them. A week or so ago I wrote a long post and when I hit the "submit reply" button I got a message that the thread had been closed. While it is possible that happened while I was composing my post - - - - if it wasn't because of that - - - I would suggest that a message be displayed when someone hits "post reply" that notifies the user that the thread is closed so they spend time pondering issues and composition only to see it all go unappreciated by the world at large.

If a thread has been closed, the "post reply" button no longer works. The thread must've been closed while you were composing.

BTW, while composing long replies I often hit the Preview button so that the site doesn't reset my "last visited" time. (Since I use the "show new threads" view almost exclusively, losing that timestamp can be annoying.)

Might help you in your situation, too. Worth a try.

Thanks for the responses. I just posted two rather lengthy notes with much success. I think there is something to the suggestion of using the preview button. Thanks for not considering me an idiot (at least in public!). Just kidding.
