So are these g Force T/A KDW tires good replacements for the Bridgestone 040 originals? I'm in need of some new ones. They are a reasonable price at Tire Rack, but are there downsides to them?
Thanks.

Thanks. A friend with a Cadillac V series CTS says they were standard on his car, and are excellent there as well.

IMO, they are loud as hell. I replaced my original Dunlops with the KDW's, and hated them for the 16K miles I got out of them. They made a lot of road noise, and had two distinct speeds, that were no longer drivable, 42 and 82. At both of those speeds, the noise was enough to give me a headache. Worst tires I have ever owned from a daily driving standpoint. Grip was ok, not the greatest, but decent for a 300 TW tire.

To me, there are plenty of other tires available, at places other than Tire Rack, that are much better substitutions for the high price OEM tires. Try Edge Racing, they have a few options too, Tire Rack is not the only place to get tires.

just my two bits.

I have had them for approx. 2k miles and I'm not impressed. They are about as loud as the RE40's but IMO do not provide the same level of grip. I will be using different tires next time.

I got my KDW NT's put on yesterday. They look great, especially in the 245/40 size I got. Road noise is actually down from my Dunlops, and once in the corner there is more traction. But they definitely have a softer sidewall, so turn in isn't as crisp and the car isn't quite as responsive. I'm wondering if adding a little pressure will firm them up a bit. The softer sidewall also makes bumps and potholes less apparent.

I've only put a few miles on them and haven't played with tire pressure yet, but so far I'm not that happy with them. Personally, I'd rather have a loud tire that jars me when I hit a pothole, but handles great and has a nice firm sidewall. I guess it's all in what you want in a sports car.

Ive had mine on for about 20k miles. They are quieter than the RE40's, when cold theres a slight delay under hard cornering, just enough to give you an uneasy feeling. Once they get warmed up, they are awesome....

Next set will be kumho's...

I have a feeling that a lot of my squirmy sidewall feeling is from going up to the 245 size. I just got off the phone with America's Tire and they said they will replace them with 225/45's. That's really cool of them. Hopefully the KDWs will feel alot better in the OEM size. I'll post the results next week.

the squirm is from softer sidewalls, not so much the wider size, especially since you went down in sidewall height. It is also a 300TW tire, not a really high performance tire, like the ones that came on the car, in either the Dunlop or the Potenzas.

EDIT: It's nice to FINALLY see that there are other people on here who agree with me that the KDW-2s are lousy at handling. Here's my experience with them...

I had KDW 2s on my first RX-8 (automatic) in 225/45/18. The main reasons why I bought them were because of the cheaper price, much longer treadlife than OEM, and all the members on here were praising the tire's handling (at the time). So I figured wtf, why not buy em? That ended up being a costly mistake for me.

The KDW-2s were flat out horrible at cornerning and handling compared to the stock RE040s. One of the many contributing factors to swapping from automatic to stick last year was the fact that I knew I was going to be stuck in those tires for another 2 years. They were nice looking tires though, and they had a long treadlife and could fly through wet roads effortlessly. But they took away all of the car's performance. When I owned the old 4 speed automatic RX-8, after enduring two years of pitiable acceleration, one of the only things that kept me smiling in the car, performance-wise, was fast cornerning and great handling ability. With the loss of those two factors after putting on the KDW-2s, that was the nail in the coffin for that RX-8.

It's funny to read one of you saying you think the 245/40 size is what is causing the bad handling, but I swear to you that those were my exact same feelings at the 225/45 size. I thought that my mistake was buying them in the stock size, instead of going for 245/40/18 like a lot of other owners on here do when they change tires. Based on what you guys have stated though, it doesn't look like it even matters what size you run them on. As mentioned above, the sidewall is too soft, and that is what sends the handling down the *******. What's more bothersome is that clearly, none of you guys bothered to do a search for "KDW" before buying this tire, because if you had, you would have come across SEVERAL threads with posts I made about how horrible the tires were (posted well over a year ago). Aipex8, the new set of KDW-2s they are sending you is going to be just as bad as your current set. Seriously, get your money back and run.

Anyway, here are 2 pics from my former RX-8, which focus on the KDW-2's pretty tread. All show and no go:
