clutch instillation

has anyone installed their own clutch? if so how complicated was it, how much time did it take, and what tools do you need?

It requires:

1. taking the exhaust off
2. taking the shifter out
3. supporting the rear diff with a jack
4. taking the power plant frame off (surrounds the drive shaft and holds the transmission in place).
5. taking the drive shaft off (being very careful not to scratch it if it is the carbon fiber one)
6. disconnecting all the wires from the transmission
7. taking the transmission out
8. uninstalling the clutch
9. resurfacing the flywheel using 80 or 100 grit sandpaper in a circular motion to get any ridges out.
10. uninstalling the throwout bearing
11. reinstalling the clutch using the clutch allignment tool
12. reinstalling the throwout bearing
13. reinstalling the transmission, driveshaft, ppf (making sure to use the torque specs and allignment specs for the transmission, ppl, and driveshaft) If this is not done the potential for damage is high and dangereous...
14. top off the transmission as it will leak some gear lube when pulling it down.
15. reinstall shifter

That being said it isn't too bad.

Make sure and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

If the car falls off of a jackstand or jack it could deploy the airbags.

Take the flywheel in to be resurfaced, ground not lathe cut. You could have issues with the operation of the clutch if it's not perfectly even. This includes bad pull down, uneven wear, hot spots on the flywheel. not releasing, etc. It'll cost around $20

Just put in a lightweight flywheel while you are at it. Best mod I've done yet.
