Question Racing Beat PCM Reflash 2004 worth it?

i wanted to get some opinions on this before i get it done. if you have it, was it worth 300 bucks? it doesn't seem to add much hp, and according to the graph on their website, hp drops significantly at 8500 revs anyway, so extending the redline from 9000 to 9300 doesn't seem to beneficial either.

anyone have some insight into this?

oh, i have no other performance mods as of yet - going to get flywheel, pulleys, intake ... turbo eventually but not for at least 2 or 3 years on the FI. just looking for a first step.

From others reviews, it's worth it. And though the stock rx-8 does drop power at those rpms...the new flash adds some power to it.

the lowering of the temperature settings for the fans alone makes this mod worth it.

yes which is why they waited until they got their hands on the recall flash(es) to work with. their flash is built on the recall levels so it has all the benefits from the recall PLUS their changes. but you then have to not let your dealer flash your car anymore. I think its fairly safe to say that for the 2004 cars we are about out of Mazda flashes. if for some reason a dealer did flahs over the RB flash RB would redo it for a smaller fee. me? now that i have the recall flash i will be putting a cap over the port which says "do not flash this vehicle ever" and informing my service advisor to not do a flash ever again without my say so

Yes.
You have to pay 50% of the original price to get the PCM reflashed by RB.

thanks for the feedback guys. on the cooling part of it, besides the fact that is simply better to keep the engine cool, is there a more immediate effect? one that the driver would "feel"? or is it just one of those better-for-the-engine kinda things? ...

heya guys,

*Zoom44* -props to you man, I have seen press in articles showing your support to get us 8 drivers some love from mazda. RX8 has an extremely strong community.

I too am seriously considering getting the RB flash, im only like a half hour drive from Racing Beat. My car goes into Mazda on monday for the recall. After that I will probably head out there.

I was a little concerned about the catalytic converter having its lifetime halved because of the new ECU settings. Is this not an issue?

when the car hits 8k to red, is it pulling?.. stock is pretty much ready to shift at 8k.

So their ECU flash will basically do what Mazsport's fan mod does?

OK, what about the Racing Beat Headers - they are not out yet. Will this current flash get an update by RB when the headers are out?

Exhaust Headers - (Update 11/06) We are waiting for delivery of the exhaust manifold and outlet flange from our supplier.

the cobb reflasher will let you make changes to your ecu flash.

if you get the rb flash now, you can use that as a base for your future updates. cobb's stuff costs about $700 for the hardware and $200 for the software. not out yet, but I hear it's close.

the mazsport cooling fan mod costs $150.

if the rb flash is worthwhile, depends on your needs and what you plan for future mods.

I know about the Cobb stuff, I'm more curious if RB will update their flash for the header. I'll call them next week after the hangover wears off.

Headers?
It was my understanding that headers won't do much if anything. Has this changed?

if you track your car the extra usable 800 rpm(with stock flash the car is dead at 8.5) can make a big differance in the way you can drive the track. In some cases it may elimenate a shift altogether. Thats significant. Plus the fan mod and extra power. This mod is a good value.
I do wonder if rb's map is affected by the long term fuel trims the car will set up after the flash? Anyone know?
