Who would've thought...

Twice. In two days I had someone from opposite ends of the city ask me what kind of car this is.
I had no idea there are people out there that still have no clue about this car, have never seen one on the street, and ask, "Hey, what the hell kind of car is that??!"

I love it though:

"Well sir,(maam), its a Mazda RX8"

"A what??"

"An RX8!" *grumble*

"wow! I've never seen one of those before, it's very nice"

"Thank you very much. By the way, it's a four door"

"Say what?"

"yes, and in fact, the engine has no cylinders as well"

"Say What??"

"indeed, well thanks, have a nice day"

LoL anyway, I got a kick out of it as it happened yesterday evening and then again this morning.

Just yesterday from a colleague at work, and Porsche Boxster owner...

"how do you like the RX8"

"great, but a bit of a gas hog" said I

"it has a V8 eh?"

"um, no, a rotary"

"oh yeah, right" and fumbles off, embarrased I think. Should have asked him about his V8

That's nothing. Four 18 year old catholic school girls, and one cheerleader saw my keychain, one thing led to another and the rest is history. I still don't know their names.

a reminder I've had this macine for about 3wks.

I had guy come up to me in the convenience store(about a week ago)

"Hey man, is that thing fast?"

"why yes, yes it is"

"Cool, never seen the white one before"

"thanks man, have a good one"

I admit. I like the attention.

What's the trick to locking down the 18 year catholic school girls?
Or should I do a search on this as well?

Apparently no one is more pimpin than Tlovr!! LOL

Apart from getting compliments from strangers, cute girls, and the occasional motorhead, the best thing about driving a rotary car is the respect!
People move out of the way when they see you approaching! People start to use the right lane when they see you coming up behind them!
That's what I admire most of my car!

Whenever I get back into the 3, people get in your way, they don't look twice, and they never want to move out of the "fast" lane...

I was coming back from the driving range with my two friends (yes the runk does fit 2 sets of golf bags) when we hit a red light. This huge SUV pulls up beside on me on the left turning lane. Didn't pay much attention assuming it was a bunch of guys in it. I turned to look and caught these two cute girls checking out my ride. I waved hi and the one on the passenger side blushingly said, "nice car".

My friend turned to me and told me I better not peel out or stall. Light turns green and it was the smoothest start I've ever done! lol

Haha, man that reminds me of when i was driving my friend's track 8 back to his house. Basically the same scenario except i was too busy trying to be cool infront of the blonds i forgot about the heavy a$$ clutch and stalled the damned thing.

I was at the car wash and this guy walks up to me and said are those doors in the back, so I opened them up for him to see, he then told me that was the coolest thing he has ever seen. Then he asked me how much it cost to do that, and I said it came that way he was like no way. The whole time I was thinking is this guy for real.

I guess I will share my stories to.

1) Literately ~ 24 hours after i picked up my car, I was driving down this road. A car with two relatively younger girls ( high teens low 20s?) blew pass me, then slowed down until we were driving side by side. So I looked over and this one girl rolled down the window, yelled " nice car!" ( i could see her braces haha, pretty young), then sped off. My first thought was " wow this car is paying itself off already"

2) One day me and my friend (who was driving his S2000) were getting gas in this Piece of **** self serve gas station in some ghetto mall in some ghetto neighborhood. Just when we were about to leave we see this one guy w/ a mullet running ( literately) acorss this empty parking lot towards me. I was like holy **** he's going to pull out a gun and rob me. He ran up to my window ( my window was down.. mistake) and said " I just want to see one of these upclose! I've seen a few on the road but never saw one upclose.. pretty cool'.. then he ran way.. literately.. he RAN...

hehe.its always interesting to see how well the masses respond to the styling of RX cars. The FD's used to be confused with ferrari's by chicks all the time.

The RX-8 looks like a car that should cost a lot more than it does.

That reminds me of a small story...
I went to Sunoco to fill up. This was an older station so you had to go into the little store to pay for the fuel. I finished filling it up, went in and was about to pay when the 2 girls behind the counter got all giggly. I looked up and they must have been 17, 18 at the oldest! Cute too.... well, I go to hand my credit card so they can ring it through and finally 1 of them decides to speak "Ummm, I'm sorry, but I like have to ask, is that your Ferrari?!". Both of them have these ridiculous smiles on their faces... You'd think they struck gold or something.... Meanwhile I look around the gas pumps and the only sports car I see is mine! LOL!! So playing it cool, I turned back and said "yes, I don't get to take her out that much... mainly a weekend toy", casually putting the credit card back into the wallet. By now of course they both want to jump over the counter and ask for a ride. Instead they tell me "well, like you know we get off at like 4pm...".
Unfortunately I was late for a dinner date at the time, so the only thing I could say was "Let's do this. Give me your phone number and I'll call you tomorrow. How does that sound?" I've never seen girls that young have numbers written on embossed cards before.... makes you wonder... lol

I casually got out of there, put the shades back on, and fired up the car. As I pulled away I managed to catch both of the girls staring from the window...

I'll never sell the FD!!!

Karfiesta,
Well, it's safe to say they're more like 24-26 now... so it should be alright for you to hit it.

rotten42,
Trust me, I would have given them a ride... but, I had a dinner date at the time... couldn't cancel on that... despite how cute those girls were...

Lates,

P.S. I love that Hit it Pick! Kills me everytime I see it....

LOL...
This is funny!

Lots of people stare, stop just to say "nice ride/nice car", etc...

But, most interesting one was a sir or around 40, he stopped in the Canadian Tire parking lot and started to ask some things... Same old... I told about the rotary engine ("rotary what?"), 4 doors ("where?"), had to show it..., etc...
Then, the final question... How much?
I said around 30K used...
"Wow! I found it would cost more then 50K" - With that pause and expression like "I could have one if my wife didn't spend so much money with BS"!

Then, I though... "Yeap! They cost almost that from the dealer, and you sell it for half of the price after just 2 years!!!"
