Good stuff right here:
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/07/...in-45-seconds/
A British engineering firm has put together a high-performance hybrid version of BMW's Mini Cooper. The PML Mini QED has an output of 640 horsepower, according to PML. It has a top speed of 150 mph, a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. The car uses a small gasoline engine with four 160 horsepower electric motors on each wheel. The car employs a brake-by-wire system to recoup some lost energy under braking. The motors are able to provide ABS and traction control with guidance of the car's onboard computer. The Mini QED is a plug-in hybrid, meaning it can be charged directly from a power outlet. The car will "not be generally commercially available," according to its creators. However, the company is "interested in discussing possible one-off orders and collaborations."

Yah, what's that MPG calculation when considering the fuel cost at the power plant to recharge it?

That must be some crazy power curve. That car is still realtively light and with 640 hp how can that car only get 4.5 0-60? Must be really fun to drive though. Must sound kinda like a massive supercharger whine.

But, it's still one very unattractive car. Basically what we have here is the world's fastest chick car.

does seem slow for that much hp. Especially given that it's using brushless motors. All of the power and torque is immediately on tap, no need to rev to a specific range to get the power out of it.

possibly could be a lack of tracking. mini's have really small tires and short wheelbases.

I wonder how it would do with motors like this:

http://www.rasertech.com/news_media_videos.html

12" diameter x 8" thick for just one pancake motor...making 500 hp! More efficient under heavy loads, cheaper to manufacture than existing motors, more compact, cheaper/simpler motor controller, etc.

I would like to put a couple of these on the rear of my RX-8 ,,,smokin!
Someone needs to get with these guys and do an RX-8 and see what the heck they could obtain,,HP,Torque and MPG. Could be amazing.

Only if you have equally amazing batteries.

EEStor was supposed to have their prototype ultracapacitor ready by August, but it's been pushed back to September. If they are actually legit, I think the demise of IC engines will be more rapid than anyone suspects. Kind of like how 100 years ago there were steam and electric cars for a while, but they vanished almost overnight as soon as Henry Ford figured how to make gas cars cheap and practical.

I would buy some small scale solar panels & small scale wind mills, and have them either directly connected to the car when in my driveway or to a battery which would then be connected to the car over night.
