How long did your stock tires last? Im at about 17,000 miles and they are telling me its time to replace the rear tires.

My Potenza RE040 did the job, 7 track days, (CA Speedway, Laguna Seca, etc.) 2 SoloII, 25,000 miles. No road noise.

Just put on a used set of 3,000 mile Potenza RE040 from another RX-8, only $250 for 4. Now I know why everyone complains about road noise. Must be from the Bridgestone manufacturing batch, because my first RE040s I could only hear the wind at 80mph.

Who is 'they'? Did you look at the wear-bars? My Dunlops have 24K miles - I'm down to my last 1/8th-1/16th of an inch.

I have 30k on my stockers with strict rotation schedule, and snow set during winter. I still have about 40-50% left.

I got 20,000 miles out of my OE Dunlops (including maybe a half-dozen autox's and two track weekends). They still had tread but had lost much of their stickiness by that point. Great tires.

I replaced mine a little before 17K. Had the Yokohama's ever since. Now I'm almost at 37k and I have at least one more rotation left on them. Will probably be a repeat buyer of these.

I had mine and everything was fine until 25k. Then they started getting LOUD very quickly. They were pretty threadbare until finally the dealer broke down and replaced them at 30k. My front pads and rotors gave up the ghost around the same time, and now I'm pretty sure my shocks are gone, at 33k. I drive pretty conservative too.

BTW, those "free tires if you do all your scheduled maintenance here!" is a bunch of crap. Their list of maintence exceeds what Mazda recommends. ie, Mazda says to inspect a certain part, but the dealer's bulletin board subtly changes that to "replace". I thought my little free maintence credit card from Mazda would cover everything, and then I'd get free tires from the dealer too. Nope, they told me I owed like $400 for the 30k service. They told me this after I had approved the 30k service over the phone. I assumed Mazda's idea of scheduled maintence was the same as Joe Meyers idea. Nope. For slightly more money, I could have got a lot better tires. Also they wouldn't hear of substituting better tires and letting me cover the additional cost. Way to bend over backwards and satisfy the customer, Joe Meyers.

33k on the Bridgestones then the wear indicators kicked in ... dam noisy now.... good grip in dry conditions ...rotated them regularily ... hated them in the rain.... had Stones on my 88 FC as oem tires ... same issues with them .... I'm leaning to switching to the Dunlops or maybe the Kumhos.

wow...thanks for the overwhelming response...I havnt rotated them but really didnt know to do it so often in a new car with only 17k....guess im used to the 50k + truck tires, and not these soft performance tires.

Im gonna still see if i can get some kind of pro-rated price for a new set.
