and yet, an aftermarket non-component 4-speaker system STILL can show it up. Being an audiophile myself, this comes as a great disappointment.

Listening to Paul Oakenfold today just reminded me of how limited the stock system is.

By nature, the Bose system really is designed more for classical/instrumental/opera music. It does seem to excel a little in those aspects, mostly because of the importance of crisp highs.

It starts to get a little muddy when listening to anything alternative because of the limited mids. And as if anyone needs told so, it's low (bass) output would definetely be it's achilles heel.

Overall, even the crisp highs can't make up for the muddy mids, on top of the non-existent bass. Bose is known for the crisp sound from a radio. But they probably shoulda left 300-watt car stereos to the companies that specialize in it.

Even my Focal Polyglass separates beat out the highs in the Bose system. I really liked the Polyglass speakers but they aren't as good as the Utopia's I'm replacing my front speakers with. I want the 3 way separates for the front and then I'm using my polyglass for the rears and a JL Audio W6 12" for the sub in the rear and I'm hoping to find a Davinci amp to run it with... anyone want to sell me a Davinci amp from Soundstream... Bueller... Bueller...

where are they?

the "premium" sound package was the only option I was really adamant about getting in my new 8, much to my demise (my fault for not doing the research, and either way I'm assuming its at least a little better than the stock system on the 8). Anyway, I was told and read that there are 9 speakers, but I am having problems finding them all. I only count 7. Anyone want to point them out to me?

1) Center Channel in the center of the dash neear the window x1.
2) Tweaters in the a piller on the doors x2.
3) 9" Subs in the doors x2.
4) coaxal (2 speakers in one) 6x9s (if memory serves) in the rear behind the seats x4.

I hope that helped.

If you are really after a Davinci, I might have a customer who is looking to sell one.

I'm kinda curious to find out if the weakest link of the system is really the speakers, or if maybe the deck lacks even worse. Reason being that it would be completely pointless to replace the speakers if the deck alone doesn't put out.

Add to the equation that if you want to replace the deck, you've got a cheap $400 kit you've gotta buy ON TOP of the price of the deck, just to change it all out...assuming you'd be able to do it. I'm sure that labor wouldn't be cheap for those without the know-how.

Wow...replacing the stock system in this car could REALLY be a bit of a pain. Of the 5 different cars that I've did complete sound-overhauls (Probe, Cobra, Bonneville, Ranger and Concord), this one has to be the most complicated to cover all yur bases! And let me tell you...to beat out the Mach460 system in complexity is a feat of it's own. Talk about a mess...

oh yea...and sorry for the hijack.

Yep! Let me know if and when they are interested. That is one of my favorites. Clean amp.
