Ford has 5 of the top 20 best selling vehicles in April

Here is a chart of the top 20 in April sales. Ford has 5 vehicles on the list. GM has 4, Toyota has 4, Honda has 3.

No doubt, Ford is selling a lot of cars. That's why they are #2 or #3 (whatever it is now). That chart also demonstrates the very large problem at Ford...dwindling market share. Look at the year to date change in sales for the Ford vehicles:

F-series (the vehicle that has saved Ford) +1.4%
Econoline +0.4%
Focus -7.3%
Taurus -8.1%
Mustang -8.5%
(With the Focus, Taurus, and Mustang having the largest percentage loss of the top 20)

Then you look at the Sonata +50%, Cobalt +38%, Civic +20%, Tacoma +15%, Sienna +13%...the car market doesn't look good for Ford.

4 for Chevy
4 for Toyota
5 for Ford
3 for Honda
1 for Hyundai
2 for Dodge
1 for Nissan

The Mustang is the only sports car there, congrats Ford!

For all the trash people talk about the Cobalt, it's in the top 20 and so is the Impala. The Camry really kicks butt thats for sure.

Is it me or does it seem Nissan might be losing some of it's ummphhh?

Side Note: I was looking at the Nissian Exterra for my dad, let me tell you for the price it's the best bang for your buck SUV there is, in my opinion.

It'd be nice to see the Fusion get on that list sometime soon. And does anyone else thinks it's BS that they count the Toyota Matrix and Corolla together?

Only if you think it's BS that the Focus wagon, and 5 door get counted with the 3 door. Or that the mustang coupe gets counted with the convertible. Or that the various F-series (150,250,350) and their multiple cab options all get counted together. The corrola and matrix are the same car, ones wagonesque and one is a sedan.

probably won't happen as Ford split the car into three versions to appeal to three market segments. I can tell you that combined the three models had record sales in April (19,000 units.....68,000 units since Jan 2006).

Are Expeditions included with the F-Series? No. Are Tahoes and Suburbans included with the Silverado sales? No. Are the GMC clones included with Chevy? No. If it works one way, it should work the other. I'm not trying to take anything away from Toyota, but let's call it down the line.

That's good news. I'm thinking about getting a Fusion once the hybrid version comes out.

The Taurus is supported highly by rental car companies......a big reason why Ford wanted to get away from the Taurus nameplate. Cars sold in large quantities to fleets like rental companies a big discounts really hurts a nameplate's residual value. Ford does not discount the Fusion or the Five Hundred for rental companies like they did with the Taurus. Ford knew that market share would take a hit......but it helps with the residuals which in-turn allow Consumer Reports & Edmonds to give higher ratings. This is a strategy most import companies have been using for years now and it pays off. That is why you rarely see a Toyota or Honda rental car.

I think that is a wise choice. Like I've said in other threads, my mom has a Zephyr that is fully loaded and my sister has a Fusion SEL.......they both love their cars. I have driven both and performance is not a concern. I do think the front seats are a little tight......but the rear seats are extemely roomy. With the 3.5L AWD coming in 2007 on the Zephyr, that car is going to be really hard to pass on. I have driven the MKX as well and that is one of the nicest riding SUV's I've ever been in.

Do VW Golf and Jetta sales get counted together? How about Mazda3 and Mazda5 sales? Same brand, same chassis, different body styles. Using the logic on the list, they SHOULD be counted together.
