Amp/speaker upgrade
I didnt realize how horrible the Bose system is in the 8 until I installed 2 pairs of Alpine type r speakers in my 05 Xterra.
The 8 has a sub, so the bass is much better, but the bose system is very bad.
Anyway, I have read many posts on line converters, etc.
I have a head ache. Kinda conflicting answers.
Currently I tapped off the rear speakers, into locally bought line converters, into an amp, and into a sub.
What I want to do is tap into the HU, new amp, and new speakers. Typr r's most likely.
As I understand the David Navone LOC is used for the non bose HU, and the LX6? is used for the bose sytem, because the bose HU needs an LOC that can sum inputs?
Why is this?
I do not need to wum anything, I just want to convert the front and rear HU outputs, to go into an alpine amp. I will use the pre outs on my alpine amp to feed my sub amp.
People have tapped into the system both before and after the bose amp.
What is the most current method to use?
I was going to buy Navone's LOC, and tap before the bose amp.
Some of the posts say tap after, or at least use an LX6 LOC instead of the Navone.
If I use the LX^, do I need to hook up the center speakers, and tweeters as well, or can I just tap the front, and rear lines?
If only the 8 was simple like my xteraa.....pull out the crap and put in good stuff.
No messing with LOC's, HU that controls the air conditioning, etc.
How does Bose stay in business?

the bose sound quality has been beaten to death here. The Bose systems in other cars are much better for FACTORY systems than in the 8. Depending on what year your 8 is, you may have the newer subs. A buddy of mine works in the car audio division of bose and the late 05-06 have a completely difference sub/amp combo in the front doors. How does Bose stay in business? Great Marketing. Their home audio stuff is crap for what you pay for it, but when the wife says you can spend $2000 on a system because it looks nice in the living room, then you get to buy it. Any real audiophile is going to tell you Bose is crap and there is way better out there for the money, but as far as mainstream consumer audio goes, most people think Bose is the best. As for where to tap the LOC, this has also been debated. the HU is the same for the bose and non-bose system and the signal is FLAT across the entire freq range from the HU to the Bose amp. Most will say to tap between the HU and the bose amp, as close to the HU as possible.

If the bose/non bose head units are the same, and everyone is tapping before the bose amp, then why does the audio sticky thread say to use different line converters for each one?

I would like to know this as well. If they use the same HU and you are bybassing the bose amps why do we need to get a different LOC. Wouldn' t be the same to upgrade our sound system. Tap close to the HU, get a new amp and run that to your new speakeres/subs. Theres quite abit of opinons out there. I'm just trying to clear some of it up. Do these other LOC actually serve a purpose or are they for the audiophile that wants it all? Thanks in advance

I'm not 1000% sure since I don't have a non Bose head unit, but I believe the amp is built into the head unit on a base system. If this is true, that is why it takes a LOC after the head unit on a non Bose & after the amp on a Bose. This is probably the reason that people have ruined their head unit insalling a cheap LOC before the amp on Bose system. Do a search for Audiocontrol LC6 or 6XS. Read the posts by forbidden. He explains it the best. Also read every thread & post in the (Speaker sizes, harnesses, kits, etc: audio install reference sticky). It explains a lot. Also check out the12volt.com.

I understand an LOC is needed, but what I was wondering is that if the same HU is used on both systems. Why wouldn't the navone one suffice? After its tapped the bose amp is no longer in control. I'm asking due to the price difference on the loc mentioned on here. Is the extra hundered going to make a big difference in performance?

Yes it makes a monsterous difference in performance. The entire premise around using a LC6 or 6XS is to give the user full control and full ability of the system that they have bought. Use a basic LOC and you do not have this ability. The LC6 and the 6XS are a simple connection into the system and most importantly give you proper control over all parts of the system (like indipendent subwoofer level control for example).
