It's pretty quick, but the traction on this thing is terrible... you can't floor it without loosing control.

Someone explain to me why a front wheel drive car has such a big gay wing on it.

A better question is to ask why ANY street car has a wing on it. The wing on the Cobalt is no stupider (or gayer) than the wing that comes on the RX8.

As far as straight-line performance and top speed goes, the Cobalt SS is a virtual wash with the RX8. It has just as much right to a wing as the '8 does.

I got to play with a Cobalt SS and driver at a Race course this weekend. The track was short and tight...with no real long straights ( all less than 1/8th mile). The Cobalt had a Stage 1 upgrade and Dyno'd about 245 at the wheels. In the corners I had the advantage...and usually got by....but he climbed up my *** real fast on the straights.

All in all I was surprised how well it performed...it had hellacious torque steer when you tromp it...but the supercharger sounded way cool.

All in all, for the price it's a rocket

I bet your RX8 has a wing too.. it simply looks better with one. The Lancer Evolution looks bold without the huge wing in my opinion.

It's all about teh looks.

Oh, yes, it DOES have a wing on it. And I like it.

I think you missed the point I was getting at. My point is that pooh-poohing a Cobalt for having a wing is dumb, especially if your reason for pooh-poohing the wing is that "FWD" cars don't deserve them. An off-the-rack Cobalt SS is the equal of an '8 in straight-line performance, so bemoaning the fact that they have a wing is just plain silly.

Now, if you dislike the Cobalt's wing because it shudders like an epileptic, that's another story entirely.

Wings on RWD cars happen to make a difference as far as handling is concerned, as you probably know. Of course, a drag doesn't involve wings, but there are times in traffic where a spoiler with significant weight comes in handy. And for someone that might eventually want to get into autocross, wings may give benefits. A spoiler on a FWD car is pure looks.

And the Cobalt SS is slower in straight line performance. Not that it has any relevance to spoilers.

My point about the wing was that any downforce they claim it adds is totally useless because it's a front wheel drive car. Plus it feels like it's made of recycled vinyl siding.

And I also doubt that a car that weighs almost as much as the 8 while having less horsepower is supposed to be its equal. The SS Supercharged might stand a chance, but otherwise, don't even bother.
