Canadian floor mat problem!

Ok, I just got a call back from Mazda. Apparently I will be getting a new floor mat on the driver side.

Apparently the pin is in the wrong spot!

There is a hole in the floor mat and a pin should be WAY under your seat, although I can't find it.

They said I will be getting a new pin and mat when they get them in.

ooops.

Hey! I posted in a thread about 2 weeks ago that I had received the post bracket, but it wasn't mounted, and wouldn't do any good since it wouldn't match up with the hole in the floor mat anyway. I hadn't bothered following up, but now I certainly will!! Thanks, Wing - who did you talk to, your dealer?

Regards,
Gordon

Unless this is yet another difference between Canadian and US-spec cars, your dealership is more confused than you were! Here's what the bracket looks like, and where it fits. It is secured to the floor by a plastic strew that goes into a hole underneath the seat - perhaps that is what is confusing your dealer.

Apparently the mazda rep for Canada said that we will be getting new mats and a new pin as they didn't match up.

I talked to my salesguy who talked to the rep about it.

Either the rep is confused as well (this is TOTALLY possible).

Or we have a different mat.

I really don't understand why so many differences. But at least we got the 6 disc changer :D

Yep, I guess the Canadian floor mats are different. My dealer "Argus" showed me the mats, they called Mazda when they noticed that the hole is off to the side and the pin is in the center (or vice versa). They don't line up. Looks like you guys will have a spare mat :p

Good to hear. My dealer told me that the bracket wouldn't line up with the hole, which was why they didn't put it in, but then I hadn't heard anything since.

Yup, I just talked to the service manager, they are going to be producing more mats, we'll probably get a letter in the mail stating to go in and get your mat.

Will be nice to have a spare , I'll use the non-fitting one in the winter under my all-weather mat so I don't get salt on the base carpet If they let me keep it that is.

The dealer installed my pin, but as is reported here, the hole in the mat does not line-up. You think they would have said something considering this could be a safety issue if the mat piles up behind the pedals.

Has anyone received these floor mats? My dealer didn't even install the pin! The never seem to have a clue about anything related to the RX-8.

The mat sliding around is really starting to get on my nerves.

No mat here yet, although it really doesn't matter too much anymore.

I called mazda canada I was told to call the parts department and they can no order them from mazda hq parts. I called the parts department told me my salesguy had to order it!

That was over a week ago... .yet another reason for returning.

Mazda told me the dealer has to fill out a form. Mine did that and sent me the mat last week. I had the local dealer install it yesterday, everything is fine now.

**** them.... I'm off car shopping tomorrow.

Okay, what happens if they don't even have the pin? This is so stupid. I can't find the pin anywhere, and they said if it was there they would've installed it, but I doubt this, I think they just didn't know where it went, so they threw it out. Is the pin something that's easy to get a hold of?

Pin comes with the mat, but the original mats didn't come with a pin and even if they did it will not line up.

My pin was in the glove box when I picked up my car; I had no idea what it was until I read another thread about it here. I went back to the dealer who installed it in about 5 minutes. American dealer, but I guess they are no brighter than Canadian ones.

Hey, keep your spare mat and put a grommet in it in the right place for a spare.

Wow my dealer called said they STILL don't have the floor mats, but will call when they come in.

In other words they don't have a freakin' clue that they have to ORDER them, even though I called and explained that to them, and I was told by mazda canada that the dealer should now know the procedure.

Oh well, doesn't really matter!

Okay, I've been following this as I had the same issue.

I called Mazda Canada and they suggested speaking with my dealer. I went to the dealer and they added a bracket/hook to the bottom of the drivers seat to hold the floor mat in place.

They had to un-bolt the seat to attach the bracket but managed to do this in about 20 min. The hole in the floor mat was in the correct place for the bracket/hook.

you know, I just looked and realized my car never had the carpet hook installed either. I bought the car brand new... looks like I'll have to get the dealership to put it back in.
