All car drivers should be aware ....

This is a public service commercial from the UK. We really should have this shown in the states too.

How Close?

It really makes you stop and think how observant you are while driving.

Scary... Reminds me of this video I found the other day: http://www.compfused.com/directlink/1210/

It was sometimes scary driving my Miata. I can't imagine ever getting on a bike.

Wow! That ended up all over the internet! Dawn almost avoided it too, she just didn't have enough of an exit. Helmet camera sales have skyrocketed since that. I'm considering getting a setup too.

Miata's have a similar problem to motorbikes, they're small so some people don't see them. Why? 'Cause they're not paying attention! If we raise awareness of bikes, the'll see the miatas too

From this thread:

http://www.socalsportbikes.info/xmb/....php?tid=34948

Thank you much. I will let you know. LEO and Insurance are well aware I have it all on vid. The officer who took the report already watched it too...he chuckled and said - "yeah, good thing you have that because the guy is saying you hit him. He said he was stopped and all you had to do was stop - but you didn't, you hit him."

I'm just upset that I didn't avoid this crash. Watch the very beginning of the vid - you see me going along and I was going to pass him. Then Very uncharacteristic of me, I back off. Why'd I back off? I had a sudden bad feeling. I'm upset I couldn't avoid the crash...

i watched it a few times, & the first time through when the driver looks right, the bike IS NOT THERE...no headlight or anything.

anyway, thats a very, very good commercial. bike companies could lose customers though...

They lose more customers from accidents like this. The more bikers that are alive, the more they'll sell.

Crazy stuff. I agree that people should be more aware on the road. But I'm also of the opinion that people shouldn't be idiots while riding a bike. I had a situation where I was changing lanes to pass, while going up an uphill bridge (9A in Jacksonville), and some jackass on a liter bike nearly ended his life by running smack into me. He must've been doing 120+, because he wasn't there when I looked to change lanes, and I had a good 500 yds of left lane visibility. How he kept the bike upright, I'm not sure, but I hope he learned a lesson. A vast majority of bike accidents are caused by the rider and not the general public. And while having the general public be more aware of bike riders is a good thing, and will save lives, having semi-educated and responsible riders would save many more. Personally I'm an advocate of no motorcycle license until you're 21, but that's just me.

ouch... that looks painful. I do agree we need more educted and responsible riders out there, and we also need a lot more alert and aware drivers as well.

Yes, there are some very irresposible riders out there. We can't all be blamed for them, also we can't blame all car drivers for the ones that don't pay attention.

We could learn a lot from the UK. After you get your first motorcycle license, you're only allowed to ride bikes up to 250 cc's. There's a waiting period, age limit and an extremely difficlt test to be allowed to ride anything over 250 cc's ie: the liter bikes. They've also started a series of these commercials to enhance motorist awareness.
