winter tires/wheels package help

I'm a noob when it comes to tires/wheels so I am in need of some help. I live in NY and its been snowing a lot lately but not enough to scare me from getting tires like, now. Though as the weather gets colder it is expected that we'll get more snowfall in the coming weeks. I am basically looking for winter tires with wheels (preferably 17's) and I don't know what to look for as far as numbers/specs go. I went on tirerack and they recommended 225/50/17, but I don't want to spend too much getting each tire and wheel individually. I saw these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-Mo...spagenameZWDVW
and was wondering if they would be good or something like it.

if you guys can link me to winter tires/wheel packages (new or used) that would be awesome.

thanks,

nevermind, i thought it was pretty silly after reading what i had typed, myself. I did a 17" winter tire/wheel configuration and it didn't come out to that much. hehe.

215/55-17 is a better size for winter tires - same diameter, slightly narrower - and narrower is better for winter tire performance. Tire Rack has several articles that explain this. If you phone a Tire Rack rep and ask, they'll quote you on the 215/55 size, as long as they still have any in stock.

I second that. I have 215/55-17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 on Mazda-3 rims. Works
great. Got the tires from TireRack and the rims used her on the forum. Look in
the Buy/Sell section and the Tire/Wheel section of this forum. But don't wait too long!
Winter tires are not produced continuously over the year and may sell out!
