Curious Abt Engine Flood Problem~

Hey guys, I've been reading the thread which tell you how to avoid to flood the engine but I still can't get it.. I mean the way to avoid engine flooded.

1. what does this mean? 5 min running or reving to 3k

2. what is reving?

3. most of their engine flooded is because of move out from the garage and park some where else.. why??

4. I have to warm the car up for 15mins every morning before I drive out and wait for 2 to 5 mins before it shut down the engine??

5. Manual and Auto is the same way to avoid the engine flood?

Sorry for all the newbie question but really confusing me on the other thread..

Personally I would not worry about it - I move mine in and out frequently - it has never happened to me... The message is that you just need to clear any residual fuel with a quick rev to 3,000 rpm before switching off the engine - some consider it a good excuse to go for a quick burn around the block..

In summer, the car gets 30 second warm up - but in winter I just wait until the revs start to drop.. No need for 15 min warm ups...

Don't worry 'bout it. I don't. There are a couple of folks here who have been nuisanced by this strange phenomenon. I even tried to flood mine - but to no avail. It is even less of a problem if you have a newer one with the uprated battery and starter motor.

Just treat it pretty much like any other car. I'll get caned for saying that, but if Mazda didn't think they could tick that box, then I doubt they would release it to the public. A few of us are entusiasts, but most people out there just want to start it and drive it like any other car. And in my experience - it meets that design objective.

before you drive, you need to go for a run for 5 minutes (when the minute hand passes the 12 mark on your watch 5 times) if it's too wet or raining for a run, then rev the engine to 3K

2. what is reving?
The phenomenon that occurs when you press the accelerator - the pedal at the extreme right side ( this is opposite to the left side) - sometimes you may see the tachometer moving at the same time. You may need to have the engine running for this to occur, becareful here because you may need to put the engine on a leash so it won't run too far.

this is the real confusing thing, but a recent survey by mazda found that all the owners who flooded their cars ended up parking them in deep water. have alook at :

This is where the running part comes into it, because hopefully by the time you get back from a run the water would have drained away

Yes, gas heaters are often cheaper than radiators, but if you have reverse cycle then there may be a penny saved here and it produces a well distributed warmth.

The warming up often helps mildly flooded cars to dry

Yes, because mazda found that deep water affects both models equally, however the povo pack recovers from flooding at a slower rate because the seats become water logged adn can be a bit squishy on your bum when driving. This is another reason for running for 5 minutes, you see you should have ended up with enough of a sweat to not notice the water logged seats. Gee Mazda is pretty smart with the advice they offer.

Well said.

There should not be any more flood problems since the starter motor change. It is always a good practice to rev the engine to 3000rpm for at least 5 sec before shutting down a cold engine (when the coolant temp is still below normal operative temp).

Sco is the only one I know who warm up his car before he drives

That has nothing to do with the engine - he has to wait for Windows to boot up before he can drive...

Hrmm.. since the changes and what I should do now is wait for fwe mins before drive off and I still wonder how I should off the engine without any problem??

or just off my car like other car?

Like another sports car, nothing difference should be done.

I have a habit to turn the engine on, load the stuff and drive off.

Not like when I drive company car or my Camry. Load up and drive from 0-100 one minute after ignition

lets be honest, no one cares about company cars..... i have never given any TLC's to the company cars i had.... thats fleet manager's job

with the 8, i usualy get in and switch it on, by the time i have selected the radio station/CD i wanted and placed my mobile, im ready to go (within 1 - 2 mins).

take it easy, as in dont go and redline its nuts off (even though it wont let you when cold) until the temp goes halfway, which should be around 10-15 mins afterwards.... then bob is your auntie

as for switching it off...... i have a habit of taking it easy on the last few minutes of my trip, so the engine isnt under full load, even when i had FI'd cars fitted with turbo timer. even that, i will park the car, switch the A/C off (if it's on), get my mobile and then switch it off (within 1 min).....
