I just installed the GReddy yesterday and now every time I turn medium to hard I get a very sharp popping sound from the front and I can feel it in the steering. Is there something I forgot to put back on or tighten? Any ideas???

 

Do you have any left over bolts, screws sitting around that shouldn't be?

 

lets be sure the most obvious bases are covered...


are your lugnuts all tight?

 

yes thats the first thing I checked, and no I have no spare parts.

 

Maybe you could try jacking the car up, taking off the inner fenders, and under carriage, and looking to see if anything is rubbing when you turn the wheel in each direction. Also I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but make sure you cut those parts I just mentioned per the install instructions.

 

By "turning hard" do you mean a turn with a tight radius, or at speed?

Have you checked the engine mount?

Did you remove the sway bar as GReddy recommends? I did not remove it during my install, but if you did, that might also be the source of your problem. Outside of those two things, I can't think of anything else it could be.

I mean turning at speed. I did remove the sway and underbrace and I made sure they were both tight because I thougnt the same thing. I havn't however tried the engine mount. I'll try that tomorrow.

My car is stock and since I had the tires rotated, I've been hearing a popping sound too. It seems to happen when I'm driving at very slow speed and turning almost completely. Lugnuts are torqued properly so I have no idea what it is either?!

hmmm interesting, however it doesn't tell us how to fix it

 

I seem to remember people talking about popping noises after installing aftermarket sway bars due to insufficient lubrication. Perhaps lack of lube is the culprit.

 

Regardning the TSB pdf....
Here´s hoiw to fix it...:

Remove the front tires. Use a smooth sandpaper to scrub the surface where the tire fits. Scrub both on the inside of the rim and on the car. (There is some sort of stuff that Mazda put there for some unknown reason)... Or even better, I think there´s a descent DIY in the DIY-forum for this problem.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the front tire / wheel assemblies.
3. Remove anti-corrosion treatment (black coating) from mounting surface of brake disc and wheel with #100
sand paper, and clean mounting surface of brake disc and wheel with brake cleaner.
4. Re-tighten lug nuts to 147 N.m (108 ft-lb).
Note: The Workshop Manual specifies a lug nut torque of 88-118 N.m (65-87 ft-lb), but for a field countermeasure
against this noise, be sure to torque the lug nuts to 147 N.m (108 ft-lb). Revised wheel
torque specs should be used anytime wheels are removed from the vehicle (wheel rotations etc..).
5. Verify repair.
