Lightbulb Has anyone gone to Doc Wong's Driving Clinic?

I got this from barotary.com: http://www.docwong.com/Autos/index.htm

It's a free driving skill clinic where you go with a bunch of other cars for a drive to enhance your driving skills. I'm interested in joining, anyone else?

I guess this is only accessible to NorCal Bay Area drivers.

I used to do his motorcycle riding clinics and tech meetings. Don't know what the car clinics are like but I'd definitely give him a good recommendation.

^ Nope. I only read about it from a post at barotary. I though I'd post it here since not everyone checks that site. I'm emailing doc wong right now.

I've always wanted to attend his motorcycle clinics, but never got around to doing that. This sounds fun though.

A big thumbs up and recommendation for DOC WONG and his driving clinics... both bike and car! :D

I have attended this in the past... when I had my turbo Miata.

However I haven'/t done this for so long... but 2 BIG THUMBS UP!! We can go at a fairly good pace usually with 2-way radios and radar detectors all over..

I'm going to this month's drive. I have a pair of 2-way, so if anyone here doesn't have one, I may be able to let you borrow mine. Hope I'll see another 8 there!

You missed a great clinic. It was humbling at first with all the Porsches, Vettes and Zs there. But, while not the "all star" my token 8 held its own. There was some exceptionally nice vehicles and driving with cars like GTR, ZO6, Viper, 996, Boxter S, Z, Miata, WRX, Cooper S etc. was a blast. Doc is a great guy and at every stop we'd group and discuss experience and technique. Something I'll definitely do again.

I was worried people might be driving like idiots... was the guy in the Porsche okay? I figured I'd want to drive like an idiot too and with my tires sliding around a bit thought it might be best to stay home and wait for a report from you guys.

So Dos, do you think I'd be able to keep up without embarassing myself too much? (I have new tires now!!!)

Oversteer is definetely more of an issue for me than understeer. I don't think I've ever understeered.

I'm not sure what happened with the Porsche. Everyone was going about the same pace. When an AWD 996 loses it and a Celica convertible has no trouble you have to wonder. If there wasn't a mechanical failure he must have got into the corner a little hot and lifted, bringing the rear around. He almost got it stopped before backing into the tree. He was not injured but the Porsche sustained damage to the left quarter and rear. As far as "driving like idiots" Doc stresses smoothness and courtesy. You'll be fine if you follow his lead.

I'm going to the Nov. 13th (hopefully) meet. Anyone else going to the Nov. 13th event ? His topic of the month will be oversteer and will certainly interest most people. This could also possibly be another meet for the 8's out there in the bay ? Yeah, just tossing ideas out there!
