Good stuff. Doesn't matter what Mazda comes out with next (RX7, RX3, MS RX8). As long as it has some good hp numbers, it'll be my 2nd car.

 

woo a hybird mazda RX8. i just can't stand it. ROFLMAO.
i don't think its possible.
damn it. i was expecting the RX7 to live again in the year 2007.
looks like i have to wait longer than that. before the time comes, my rx8 and future skyline will do the jobs.

 

RX8 hydrogen concept car was unveiled awhile ago. Only thing missing is hydrogen stations to fill up.

I think if a next gen 7 comes out, it will likely be a '09 model. That way Mazda can celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original 7, which had its US debut as a '79 model. But I'll be more than happy with a MS 8 in 2007.

 

If (hopefully WHEN) they make another RX-7, and if it has at least as good of performance as the FD, and looks decent, I'll be in line to get one.

One question left unanswered tho..... are there possible plans for forced induction with the MasdaSpeed 8?

 

If they are going to build a RX-7 in the future it should be as fast as a Mustang in my opinion.

If we can somehow get better fuel economy and more power...that would be great, but I'm OK with my current fuel economy but would love to cut .5 sec in the 1/4 mile...w/o a SC or Turbo.

 

According to the buzz, FI still seems most likely. On the other hand, if Mazda dropped in a 1.6L Renesis capable of generating 300+ hp in NA form, I'd take that over a possibly less reliable supercharged or turboed 1.3L Renesis. A 1.6L NA might even have a weight advantage over a supercharger + 1.3L.

But for those that want to create monster HP numbers with aftermarket parts, I suppose a factory turbo would be best. But I have a feeling a turbo will be the least likely, as emissions may prove a challenge.

Anyway, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the Tokyo auto show in October will give us a preview of Mazda's plans for the rotary.

 

I would have to agree. 1.6 NA Renesis could work wonders. Especially if they made one with an EMU that is friendlier to bolt on, NA mods.

 

bah on rumors, it does nothing except make me anxious :o

 

these timelines just makes my car scream for FI now with Petit, Hymee, and RP's superchargers on the way I may indulge in time for next summer :D

 

Ok, I know there are still RX-8 FI studies on-going at Mazda North America, and I also know there are significant updates and improvements being made to the RENESIS engine in Japan. The probability of a true performance (F.I.) MS-8 in North America is still pretty good, but like Mazda always tells me when I ask.... "Mazda does NOT speak about future product!" So who can really tell beyond what we posted.

My impression is that if you want a high performance rotary, you shouldn't be holding your breath. In the mean time go after market (good luck with that) or get yourself a piston-based car with the power you desire. Then when Mazda finally gets around to listening to their customers, and releases a new RX-7/8, you can go and buy it.

This game of speculation and rumors is not worth the frustration. By all means keep the rumors coming, I'm not trying to kill the messanger. MAZDA please stop screwing around, and put out a rotary with some serious power, I think it's obvious that you underestimated the importance of HP, and the 8 will continue to be percieved as a failure until you up the ponies.

 

This rotary does have some serious power, compared to previous n/a rotaries. People that perceived the 8 as a failure are narrow minded and only focused on HP alone and forgot how this engine is a big improvement over the previous generations in both power and technology.

 

Hi guys, please remember the 8 is a very capable car, will outrun and outhandle
most other cars in the street, HP is important but will not make any difference if your chassis can handle it. Straigth line speed is not everything, go ask the Mustang guys, they will froze in terror if they try to follow an 8 into the twisties,
the 350z is powerfull but lacks agility, maybe 25-40 more HP will level the ground once an for all with the other current production true sporstcars.

 

This is a very good point and I agree completely. There is a reason why this engine has won so many awards. Most of us come from non-rotary cars and tend to forget. I remember when I jump in and hear the rotary whine.
