Thumbs up my fuel tank recall experience

just wanted to give everyone a fyi on my recall experience...

took the car to the dealership yesterday and no damage was found. all they did was put a heat shield (it was a cloth-like material about 1/4 inch thick) on the top of my gas tank. i was also told by the tech that they have checked around 6 8s and have found no damage on any of them. it was his opinion that this was just mainly a precautionary thing.

also, while i was there i complained about my brakes squealing and the clicking noise that i was getting when changing directions in my driveway. the tech explained that the clicking noise was from the pads "moving" directions. this was noticable because of the small metal clips. they installed the new, upgraded pads and all noises are gone!

How long did it take for them to complete the work on the car?

i was there about 1 1/2 hours. wouldn't have been that long but the tech had to download the updates to his computer before downloading to my 8 which took about 20 minutes. my dealership always lets me watch when they work on my 8. the tech even took the time to explain everything to me. remember that i had no damage from the heat issue though. if there was damage, of course it would have taken longer.

the new flash seems fine...my 8 seems to accelerate more smoothly now but other than that, haven't noticed much of a difference.

i got my gas tank recall fix done this morning. it took all of 15 mins when they started working on it. i was there at 7, before they opened, and left at 8.08. they did some kind of flash, but i haven't been able to actually drive it like i usually do because of slower traffic all the way to work.

i'm extremely happy with this experience.

Similar experience here. No damage found, heat shield installed. Front arm inspected also with no damage. "R" flash applied. I have noticed no significant changes in driveability or performance. I also complained of squeaking front brakes. My tech pulled the TSB and said it only requires that he replace the shims. He also noted that the TSB was an update to a previous one which he said he would locate. Either way, he is ordering me new pads and said he'd take care of it. Total time at dealer was 2 hrs, oil change included.
