Microtech ECU + RX8 = extra 18kw

borrowed from Ausrotary forum... and i believe in "sharing is caring" (to a certain extent :D )
wonder what the emissions would be?
what do you think?
i think we should send taka in to check it out :D

Hmm....that probably explains why my Mazda contact for the Nats expressed particular concern about ECU mods...he was aware of this....

It seems sometimes that the Finance Director and I own the only unmodified car in Australia. Their mod detector is going to explode when Taka's car drives past! :D

I knew about it from way back. It is a good unit and the same as the americans spend huge amount of time talking at the moment.... I think.

Have not met Simon but heard a lot about him. I am not into hardcore tune atm - but it will be one day, when Mazda warranty is no longer relevant. Motec and Microtech will be my top pick.

I know simon and he has been talking about the microtech unit for the rx8 for over a year now. Was in his workshop a couple weekends ago and he was telling me about the final unit. What's more important though than the peak 18kw is the under the curve improvements. With good tuning there is very good gains in the lower revs as well. Hopefully I will have a dyno from him which I'll post.

I though about having Simon do one on my car as well but still with 1/2 my warranty to go decided that I would prefer to hang on to that instead. After the warranty well :D :D

He really knows his rotary engines and how to tune them well. Now that he has the microtech unit he has a lot of other goodies for the 8, including a very, very nice turbo kit that gives 300hp at the wheels and boost at 2500rpm that doe's not fall off at high rpm's. Simon has decided to tune for 300hp as he feels the driveline can handle this without the need for strengthening but more than this might start breaking things. He also has not forgot about Superchargers either

im sure microtech have improved over the years..... so its tunability must have improved over the earlier ones.....
i'd still wondering about the emissions side of things.... my last microtech have failed me simply because it only allowed us to tune at every 500rpm... and mr. EPA told me to come back next time

Taka, motec is by far the better unit to go for, unless of course microtech has picked up the pace a bit. Motec is far more tunable than microtec.

When I swapped from microtech to motec in my racer the power (kw and Nm) was extremely noticable, especially bottom end torque. That was in a piston engine though, microtech may very well be quite suited to a rotary

You will be surprise how close they are now even for FI applications. Cost is the major factor AMG. It is looking at 2-3x going for Motec tune (just not telling you all the prices)

The only attractiveness on Motec is their peripheral support and the data logging system. It is just supreme. But it is just useless to me at the moment.

Hymee is also using Motec as one option for his supercharger development

There are some others out there; clandestine figures furtively hiding their virgin 8's from the public gaze. However, it's time to come out of the closet and declare "my RX-8 is exactly as the Lord Mazda made it, and I'm proud!"

18KW is about 24BHP, and Scott managed 22RWHP out of the Microtech here in the States.

it might be just a consevative tune for our weather, fuel & dyno that is the difference.

the 22 whp was in the mid range, not peak power wasn't it?
