0-60 Time Calculator(Not only RX-8, dont flame)

*Warning* This is not another stupid thread about the RX-8's 0-60 time. This is a site I saw about how to calculate 0-60 times for any car. It is pretty damn accurate too. What do you think?

Oh ya, in case you don't know.... 1(one) Kilogram = 2.20462262 Pounds

The formula is at the bottom half of the page...

Seems okay to me, but I have a problem with their bhp. That term is the same as whp, yet some of the cars listed they seem to be using crank hp figures like the MR-2 Spyder at 138, the Boxster at 260, and the M3 CSL at 355.

bhp is not the same as whp

In fact, Brake Horsepower (BHP) is often even higher than Crank HP (depending how a particular manufacturer measured crank hp) because BHP is measured with just the engine. No water pumps, power steering pumps, alternators, etc, etc, etc.

Okay, well look at the RX-8. If you do the manual 238hp you get 0-60 in 5.8## and the automatic in 7.01.

Seems pretty good to me. Not dead on, but just add a tenth and there you are.

Where does Mazda get 238 and 197? BHP, Crank, WHP???

It's not WHP -- WHP is more like 175whp.

I think, where applicable, Mazda uses the same number for HP and BHP -- 250.

We get 238hp here in the US because of emissions requirements, so there is no comparable bhp figure to use since BHP is primarily used in Europe.

That makes sense. Sorry, didn't mean WHP....that was obviously wrong.

It seems to work if you just plug in your own numbers. Pretty nifty.

Yes, your right. I'm not sure what I was thinking.

The equation doesn't work too well for my car. My 240SX weighs 2830lbs and had 155hp from the factory. Using that equation, my 60 time should be 9.2 sec. when it is actually 8.0 sec.

Pretty acurate. I did my car and it came in at 4.73 which is about what most mags rate it at. There's no variable in the equation that takes into account FWD, RWD or AWD though. It would be nearly impossible to squeeze off a sub 5 second 0-60mph time in a 3200lb FWD car with around 275bhp. It'd be a wheel hopping, torque steering spectacle of shame.

Or add the weight of a driver.

this might be accurate, but doesnt make up for gearing, and im sure it would assume a 'perfect' launch.
