300HP 50MPG Hybrid SPORTSCAR???
and built by highschool kids? holy bejebus!
for your enjoyment (from engadget summary):
Just as I was complaining about there not being any hybrids that I’d buy, here I’ve stumbled upon one by accident. It’s called ”The Attack” and it’s a hybrid supercar with over 300 hp developed from a AC electric motor powering the front wheels and a 1.9L VW TDi biodiesel powering the rears. The batteries powering the electric motor act as capacitors able to discharge a lot of energy in short bursts, enough for 0-60 runs in the sub 4-second range. Under normal driving conditions the car is powered by the biodiesel engine and achieves 50mpg.
And the best part is, this super-hybrid didn’t come from the Big 3 or some obscure Euro supercar maker, “The Attack” is the work of the West Philadelphia High School Electric Vehicle Team - a group of 6 high school, YES, high school kids. Mad props to these kids for giving a new meaning to “pimpin’ my ride”. WORD.
here is the bodykit's website which is from Slovakia: http://www.k1-styling.sk/

Holy crap! Aside from the awesome performance numbers (despite the need to swap the engines), those kids did a badass job designing that car! GM should look into hiring them as designers, maybe they'll finally sell something

I updated the initial post as I determined the bodykit is from Slovakia and the website I linked was only for the bodykit...not the Hybrid car
here is a pic from their website, decent trunkspace (although the hybrid's trunk is probably filled with batteries)

Aye, seriously. That thing is horrifying! Why does it take a gang of highschoolers to build a decent looking hybrid? Why is this so hard? I seriously think The Attack is the first decent looking Hybrid I've seen outside of an auto show (Hybrid NSX)

"Therefore, the ultra-capacitor(450 volts) pack stores only enough energy for a few minutes of blazing acceleration.
Just imagine, a group of inner-city high school students teaming up with a few University of Pennsylvania Engineering students to create the world’s first hybrid supercar."
Not really anything new, it has long been known electric motors produce way more torque than any combustion engine. Merely a case of good school funding.

the car that was used by highschool was sold to them as a kit car. it uses the front (ie motor tranny suspension) of the earlier accords in the back of the car. the body was designed my the same people that helped design Lamborghini. the suspension is f1 inspired and has a 50 50 distribution. it comes ready for the f22 but can be requested to be preped for a h22 which has 60 more bhp. thats a 200hp car that only weighs 1800lbs. i think a few years ago the prototype with 140hp motor was taken to a track day and from what i remember, it slaughtered everything but a good few seconds.
the picture with the trunk is the "new" turnkey model. there has been plans of a ford durtoc v6 option putting down 300hp and whispers of a super or turbo charged durtoc putting out 400+hp which is strange to me because 400 is the max k1 recommends for the chassis. unfortunately, due to EXREMELY poor management, this project never really took off.
you can still buy one but its a high risk gamble taht youll ever get anything for your money. its no ariel atom in terms of straight line speed, but it will turn with the best of them.

very interesting
yeah.. for a while i was eyeing the k1 attack, the areil atom and the gtm corvette convertion from factory 5.
attack...................200-300bhp.......1850lbs.....looks dead sexy
areil atom.............300bhp..............1000lbs.....l ooks ok but does 0-60 in 2.9!
factory 5 gtm........350-1000+hp.....2200lbs.....its basically a c5 modified to MR
.................................................. .......................ugly but out handles the c5
all were around 35-40k
ended up getting 2 track bikes and an rx8 instead
