Driver side leg room area and center console - WARM

Hi everyone,

Just bought a White RX8 with GT package last week. Just wondering if it's the same with you guys as well. When driving the car for a while, I can feel the heat coming in from the foot paddle area. Circulation is off, but it feels like warm air were coming in. Center console is very warm as well. The cup holder is also very very warm. Warm enough to turn ice water to warm water Any info would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Allan

Welcome Allan!!

Your experience with the hot console is VERY normal. It sucks in the summer, but its great in the winter, the cabin stays toasty once the engine is warm. Dont even have to run the heat.

I've heard many complaints about this on here but can say that I have yet to experience this. Yes my cupholder gets warm but not hot as some have described. I never seem to have any problems keeping drinks cold. Is this more pronounced in the earlier models maybe?

Mine does not get that hot. Warm yes, but not hot.

Allan, remember the engine is practically underfoot in this car to achieve low CG and weight distribution.

They offer an insulation pad to go under the cupholders but it may be standard now. I also turn my AC to floor & vents after it cools down. This keeps my feet nice and cool.

If you have an older RX-8, there have been insulation problems where the heat has actually caused damage to the fuel tank. See all the recall threads involving fuel tanks posted. On newer RX-8, they have beter insulated the vehicles, although you will still get a bit of warmth. This is esp noticable when you put a slurpee or Mc Donalds milkshake in the center console, it literraly melts to liquid in less than 5 minutes. I find the center console useful though for keeping coffee warm and for making frostees from Wendy's quite drinkable (I swear they get it solid and prefilled from a freezer).

Think of it this way, if you live in the northern climates, you may only have to use the heater once in an entire season (When its below zero outside). And you will always have warm coffee anytime.

I don't mind the heat, it keeps my coffee piping hot all the way to work, so I can enjoy it when I get there. The only dunks is by my house, and I don't like do drink on the 35 min drive to work.

i have an early build rx8 and though my center console and shift boot do get warm, i have yet to melt a milkshake in 5 minutes.... and i live in arizona.

i wouldnt worry about it though if you can, thats just another way to be reminded of the 2 rotors happily spinning away just a few inches from you knees!

I just got my 05 a few weeks ago and it is still insanely warn in the car. Next week i am installing an AVIC N2 fo i will have to pull the carpet up to run the brain unit under the seat. While the carpet is out i am going to try to lay more insulation material around the center console area. I will let you guys know if it makes any difference.
