18 inch Stock Rims Info

I am looking at replacing my stock rims. What do I need to know when I am shopping. Like offset and space between the lug nuts?
Thanks.

I am going through the same thing. The size of the factory wheels is 18" x 8", the offset is +50 mm and the bolt pattern is 5 x 114.3 (4.5). I have been told that a wheel as wide as 10" will work, but I am only going to go as wide as 8.5".

A bit of debate about this. It is either 22 or 23 lbs.

Be aware that if you go with a bigger than stock rim/tire combo, you may have to roll your fenders to get clearance. I'm currently at 18" x 8.5" and I didn't have to roll but it all just depends.

Are the front/rear offsets different? I don't think so....

I think they would be if you had (or decided to put) a different size rim in the front and back; but we don't AFAIK.

The offset's on our cars is the same all the way around, that way we can rotate our tires!

If you are going with aftermarket wheels, make sure the offset are set lower than what stock is because the rear wheels, as well as the fronts sit alot farther in than they really need to...

How does changing the offset effect the drivetrain? Does it put more stress on the wheel hubs?

The OE wheel specs for the factory wheels are listed below:

04 RX8 6speed
18X8 front and rear
5-114mm bolt circle
50mm offset front and rear
67mm center bore
sorry, I don't know the OE wheel weight

04 RX8 automatic
16X7.5
5-114mm bolt circle
50mm offset front and rear
67mm center bore
Sorry, I don't know the weight

17" package is the same as the 6 speed OE specs
******************************

There are several factors that go into making sure a wheel fits correctly above and beyond the information above. You also need to account for

-Caliper clearance vertically and horizontally
-The X-factor which is the distance from the mounting face of the wheel to the back side of -The X curve Which is the curve on the back of the spoke
-Tolerances for suspension and steering component
-overall diameter and load capacity issues

If you click on the Tire Rack link and enter your exact model in the shop for wheels section you will be able to see all of the wheels that we carry for your car. We also pre figure the fitment specs to save you the guess work.

remeber a wider wheel/tire doesnt always mean more grip...most of the time you are just changing the SHAPE of the contact patch NOT SIZE!

although most people throw that out the window if they want a certain look or stance to the car.
