Good question, one I would like to know the answer too. I have heard that the grounding system on Mazda's has not been the best in the past. One of the guys in our little crew here in GA has a grounding kit, but I am not sure what it does, or if there are any benefits.

EDIT:

a little research produced this article. I wonder if it is worth it.

Get lineage, they are about $100US or maybe alittle more.

In terms of performance, it does help.

don't forget to also surround you fuel line with magnets and install a swirl generator in your intake pipe

or you can just mail me your money, that's worth an easy 10 HP increase

I know about the magnets, but where can I find this swirl generator you speak of? It hooks up to the O2 sensor I bet...

a better grounding system actually does increase hp.

just an example of what a simple grounding system can do.

It really mostly depends on your grounding points. If you have good solid grounding points you'll notice an increase. This would vary car to car. Grounding kits usually works better for FI'd vehicles, so you probably won't see too much gain, and the importtuner rx8 they probably selected the right grounding points to get that type of power.

I have one I purchased off of ebay for about $35. I didn't notice any difference in performance but I think it is well worth the purchase because I no longer get the **** shocked out of me everytime I step out of my car.

They said the car had a fire under the hood before, and they put the grounding kit on it. So, if you have a fire under the hood of your 8, then this might bring your power back up . In this particular case, they'd probably gain even more power by replacing the entire underhood wiring...

If anyone wants to spend $100 on a few feet of wire, pm me and I'll sell it to you--at least one of your fellow club members will get the benefit of your lavish spending habits!

Otherwise, save up for something worthwhile like an intake, exhaust, Canzoomer or the MegaSquirt that rotarygod is working on.

Yes, I can. Even at that, it didn't have THAT much effect.
I'd say, spend your money elsewhere.

dudes, these so-called grounding kits are nothing more than heavy guage wires following the regular ground wires on the 8. Buy some at your local hardware store and save some cash if you really like to try it...

Regardless if any performance/idle improvements, etc. is just urban legand or not, here's the best deal $38 shipped http://www.maxground.com/ specifically made for the RX-8.

spin9k, look at the previous post... $38 at maxground.com can't be a better deal when you can get the wires for less that $15...peace

...Yeah, when it doesn't make a difference (well, it'll make your car a pound or so heavier to compensate for that aluminum hood) at least it will be cheap??? I'll sell you this empty bottle of Coke on my desk for $0.01 to cure cancer. It won't work, but at least it'll be cheap!

Seriously, why do people think, "I've been told that it doesn't work, or that my money would be better spent someplace else, but since it's cheap I'll try it anyway"?

That's exactly the kit I was referring to when I said it didn't do much... apart from a POSSIBLY smoother idle which may as well be a placebo effect I feel, to justify the $38 I spent :o
