It's time to put a new set on. I got 27,000 out of the factory set... and then drove another 2,000 on them.

I'd like to avoid spending $800 bucks for new tires but I want a good set of rubber on the car. I found that the OEM Bridgestons got wobbly and hard before I had even 10,000 miles on them. Plus, they're pretty expensive to replace.

What are you folks putting on your 8's?

 

i got toyo T1-S's 245/40/18 on all 4 corners. cost me 768 (that included balancing and mounting)

Toyo T1S, but the new Toyo T1R's are out now for the same price. Check out Tire rack as well as they have the Kumho Ecsta MX's on sale for a great price.

 

Nitto 555s--that's what I switched too and have no complaints. Be easy on the pedal in the rain though.

 

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 245/40/18 is what seems to be popular if you do a search.

 

I got the Bridgestone Potenza RE750(size 245X40X18). Look around in your area to see what is available at a good price(Costco,Sams,etc). Get them at a place that is going to take care of you too the 2/32 of tread. Saving a little money when you are buying them(internet, mail order,etc) might end up being a lot more trouble thru-life of the tire. If you have good local dealer that is going to take of you its worth the saving loss. After you see what everyone can get then go to every tire-survey-site and do your homework. Thats why I got the RE750...$733...OTD...full warranty.

 

I nee new tires as well. I had good luck with Potenza S03's. Anyone running them on stock wheels?

 

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. They are awesome but can be expensive. I paid $860 out the door. Got them in 245/40/18

I have the Pole Position Potenza S03's on right now. MUCH better than the stock bridgestones, (on stock rims). They don't walk on the concrete or metal grate bridges, and are pretty quiet also. Only got 5K on them, so I can't comment too much on wear.

 

Looks like a lot of different opinions.

Is there any issue with the wider 245/40 rubbing the insides of the fender? What if I lower the car with the Tein springs?

And lafrad: what size S03 are you running?

i run a 245/40/18 with no fitment issues at all. I use Falken 512s because its cheap and wears better than the Michelins and Bridgestones. They are also pretty sticky for a less expensive tire. I will probably upgrade to the Falken 451s next because i can get them for 124 each. I got my 512s for 99 ea so i couldnt beat it.

 

I am running the stock size tires on the stock rims. I got them installed at the dealer.. (Had a 25% off coupon, along with a $250 mail in rebate..... so I wasn't complaining about anything that they were saying)

Only bummer part is, i want to get a set of SSR 18x8.5's next year, and I will need new tires with those rims...

 

Sure $99 is a good price, but we are talking OTD full warranty price....

I had to pay tax on top of that but 99 was the price per tire. As far as warranty goes, tire "warranties" are a joke. Its almost impossible to get a tire warrantied because of the abuse they take. Some of my stores here in Lexington have done it for long time customers but the manufacturers dont even give us credit for "warrantied" tires so there is not much to be done about it. Naturally, if the tire is found defective before being mounted or something bizarre, it will be taken care of, but broken belts, cuts, tears, etc are impossible to get a warranty on. The road hazard program is the only insurance you can really get in place of a warranty, and you have to pay for that.

 

Yes dont buy the tire without a Road Hazard program! That is your warranty they will take care of you til the last 2/32nd of the tires life. Every dealer has a price for that, five, ten, and up.....it is a small price to pay when you think how much a new tire would be. Some give it to you with the tire price built-in(road hazard-mount-bal-valve stem-tire disposl-all taxes). Take yourself out of middle man position. Calling, e-mailing, faxing, waiting for both the supplier and installer Now you've taken some of your worries away. Now if you can do all the work yourself thats great.

I know from reading that a lot of people are choosing Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 245/40/18 as replacement fopr the OEM tires. If I am not concerned with rain traction (I avoid taking the 8 out if rain is in the forecast) and snow (my car is seldom driven in the winter and definatley not in the snow), what is a good tire to upgrade to? Size and brand? Looking for great traction, decent treadware rating and low noise. Boy, I'm asking for it all...if that exists. I have stock rims and I do not plan on changing them any time soon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also plan on taking it to AutoX sometime for fun.

 

Consider the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07's....amazing tyres for street or track and I think you can get 'em in the US now (?). These are strictly for summer use or where it's warm all year round, but they perform in both dry and wet conditions. A bit harsh road noise wise until they get properly warmed up, but once the compounds are sticky combined with the strong sidewalls, they offer great handling during hard cornering and braking.

 

I'm looking for a good set of summer tires, too. The four that are high on my list right now are:

Falken Azenis RT615
Toyo Proxes T1r
Kumho Ecsta MX
Kumho Ecsta SPT

All four tires supposedly have good dry grip, but I'm more worried about wet grip. Which of these, if any, are comparable to or better than my stock Dunlops in regards to wet handling?

 

If you are looking for the best overall tire (very good dry traction, decent wet traction, good tire life, & low noise) the new Toyo T1R will be hard to beat. 280 treadwear. Better wet traction than the T1S (which I have driven in the rain & are quite decent) & noise is actually a bit better than the stock tires.
